Eli was born November 6, 1981 to Claudia and Mordechai Akerstein. He attended Providence Hebrew day school until 4th grade when he transferred to Moses Brown in Providence, Rhode Island. He was a gymnast from the age of nine until age fifteen, when he began wrestling. He is the youngest of three children. He believes that love will prevail.
