-cold takes blood out; hot makes it stick.
when you take your pad off, drop it into some cold water to soak. after soaking, rinse it out then throw it in with the rest of your laundry.
alternatively, if you want to use it again during this period, after soaking it, rinse it out and give it a quick handwashing (you can just use whatever soap is handy if you want to), then let it dry and use it again. then when your period is over throw all the pads into the laundry.
