| I.D. Please. The guy at the door asked. O of course. I replied as I rummaged in my purse for my I.D. I stood in one of the largest lines I had ever seen in Citrus Heights, California. There were flyers in some of the wilder clubs around the town with this place on them. They all raved about this new so-called club. I had no clue how they would fit so many people into a little house like this one that I looked at now. Move it lady! The man behind me yelled. I moved almost automatically into the house and it seemed like any other college party. The music was so deafening that it took me a few minutes to get my grounds and be able to listen to something other then the 15-inch speakers blasting in the kitchen. I am glad I do not need to go in there at all. I mumbled as I watched 3 men walk out of the kitchen rubbing their ears and yelling at each other. The people were even in their own little groups as they call it. Stoners over in the corner getting high, the rest, drugged or drunk beyond acknowledgement. As I looked around trying to see if I knew anyone I saw a flight of stairs leading down. On the wall beside them there was a neon light up sign with an arrow pointing down. I froze as I felt a cold finger move up my spine and looked on the other side of the room and there stood the most handsome man I had ever seen. He was tall with dark hair that covers one of his eyes, wide through the shoulders, almost too wide but not quite. His mouth was mesmerizing with a wide and full bottom lip, which curled up in a smile. His eyes were sunken and as blue as the sky on a summer day, his skin was as white as the virgin snow. He scanned the room as if looking for someone and when his gaze fell upon me, I smiled and blushed furiously. We just stood there looking at each other for what seemed like hours but only lasted 2 minutes at the most. As I started to blink he turned away from me and headed downstairs. I was suddenly feeling all alone even though there were many people in the room. One man, plainly drunk, bumped into me and spilled his drink on my new lime green tube top. The only shirt that went good with my mini skirt. Excuse me! I said furiously glaring at the man as if I could turn him into stone. Sorry lady, can I buy you a drink? stumbling around I decided to act like I did not know he was there and I started to head to the stairs and down I went. Surprisingly the basement was 4 times bigger then the ground level floor. I searched the room for the mystery man I had seen earlier and there he was at the bar in the left side of the room. The room had one bar with two Marilyn Monroe replicas flirting with the men sitting on the stools. I felt so disgusted that I turned around and no sooner then I put my foot down that my mystery man turned around from his conversation with a beautiful woman. I could feel my heart start to race faster and felt a tingle needle feeling in my limbs. I twisted my head around to see if he was in fact looking at me and there were those blue eyes staring at me. I could do nothing but walk up to him slowly as if in a trance. What are you doing down here my precious? he asked with a surprisingly soft voice that was little above a whisper. The music now was very faint and only the base was making in down to the basement. So many thoughts in my head racing at such speeds that I could not do anything but stand there and try to sort out, impossible, totally impossible. Checking out the sites. Getting around to know the place. I replied with a dash of a smirk. You shouldnt be down here, he said as he looked over me figuring I am no threat. Many girls disappear every day. You wouldnt want to be one of them. I looked around and there was a ratio of possibly 4 women to 1 man, which surprised me cause there was only a few girls who lived around here. I like to take my chances. Come sit with me? I gave him the innocent look, which made him giggle at me. You are even more beautiful when you laugh. He said as if he was memorized. I felt suddenly shy which was very unnatural for me. As we sat down he moved closer to me and I could almost feel his skin brushing against my arm but no warmth came from him which I thought odd but it was cold in the basement so maybe it was just me. May I? he grabbed my chin ever so lightly and at the same time forcefully as he turned my head I heard a bell going off in my mind but ignored it. He kissed my neck a number of times and oddly enough I went numb and he pulled away and looked at me as if I was the most disgusting thing he had ever seen. What? What is wrong? and as I said those words I looked at his handsome mouth and saw blood dripping from it. I raised my hand to my neck and felt a wet substance. . I screamed so loudly and he put his arm around me and over my mouth totally restraining me and canceling my option of screaming for help. Everyone OUT! he yelled furiously as I bit down in the side of his hand. He was in a rage by the time the last person ran out of the room and he picked me up and threw me against a wall. Girls disappear all the time. He said again though this time he had the tone of a mad man. You are so beautiful, so beautiful. He kept repeating as me bit me and drained me of my life. At the very last second he picked me up again and laid me on the velvet sofa that we had sat in no longer then half an hour ago. Rest now my precious. You will need your strength when the moon comes up. He whispered in my ear. What do you mean? What have you done? I could do nothing but lay there paralyzed with fear and numbness. You are mine now, no one elses but mine and you until stay with me for eternity. I let one single tear fall as I realized what he had done. He had turned me into one of them. A creature of the night, a vampire. I have lived centuries and I am not living anymore alone. I am sorry but I need you now. He pleaded and I felt so sorry for him and at the same time repulsed at the sight of him and the thought of what he had done. I will stay with you. On one condition, I replied with a faint flirtatious smile. You have to let me say good-bye to my friends and you have to let me do what I want. Alright but no funny business, I dont take such nonsense lightly. He told me as if I was a child. I hated being talked to like a child but seeing the pain and hurt in his eyes I turned to mush. I stayed there the next day regaining my strength and the next night we took off to our next destination even though we didnt know where we were going. We headed to the north. We went over so many countries and we learned so many languages that I lost count and became very fluent in almost all languages. We were going. The thing that mattered was we werent alone. We had each other and whenever the world became too Much for us we went to sleep and slept the century away, waking up the next century to see if we had the heart to rise again and feed on the innocent souls that populated the earth. Here is where this story ends, but our story will live for all of our unnatural lives. We spent many years following the roads. So many endless roads. My lover started drawing me. He found himself preserving my ever-changing looks in pictures. I changed my look almost constantly to make sure no one became suspicious of us. His favorite look was always the Old Fashion. When we sought our fortune we bought the club we first met in and turned it into our home. My lover loved that house as every time we went back home we changed our name as to not attract any attention. At one time they never took their eyes off of me and they whispered many things. They did not know I had heightened sense of hearing and I heard every little word. Doesnt she look an awful lot like her mother and grandmother? One woman said as I got out of my Car. Why she does. What do you suppose thats from? I dont know. I hope they arent Inbred. That would spoil them all. I heard them perfectly fine and every time I heard such remarks it held a grip on my heart. I walked into my home and saw my husband was on then phone. I nodded to him and put the mail on the table next to the door and headed down the stairs. Down in the basement I pained my heart away. I sold them to the nearby gallery in the evenings and the manager there and I became quick friends. He loved the darkness I painted and the many gothic pictures I turned out. Sometimes he asked too many questions and I felt like just ripping him apart with my hands but I needed this to keep me from thinking of the many years I spent in the dark. I always signed the pictures with a fake name and m friend, Robert Pond, knew I did not want anyone knowing what I did with my time so he agreed to keep my identity secret, which was a huge relief to me. Jason didnt like how I got along with humans but he understood my thirst to do something and not let myself have time to think about my friends, dead and gone, and with no one to even know whom I really was. I even started taking pictures of people and took that home and drew them but after a few years it became a bore to me and I found myself seeking other ways of entertainment. Jason became inpatient with me sitting around the house all say and he all of a sudden jumped out of our leather sofa and looked right at me and announced he wanted to go to Alaska for a while. But we wont know anyone there hunny. I complained Thats why we are going there. You need something to do as I do. You need more sights to draw or to find something else to occupy your time with. We also need a chance to get the fire between us again. As he spoke I kept looking at his mouth. Completely memorized by the movement. I suddenly realized I was ready to leave here again too. Instead of taking a plane this time we took my car with all our clothes in the trunk and our money in the back seat and headed off to Alaska. |
