Yuna's father, Braska was a High Summoner who left on a Journey when Yuna was very young to defeat Sin. He left with Auron, his friend and Jecht, Tidus's father. When Yuna was seven, Braska was killed when he defeated Sin and Kimahri, a Ronso came to her rescue where she met Lulu, Wakka, and Chappu, Wakka's brother. The five of them became very close, like brothers and a sister to Yuna.

When Yuna grew older, she wanted to follow in her fathers footsteps and also become a Summoner and help defeat Sin and bring the "Calm" for a short while. Lulu and Wakka did not like this idea because they knew what would come, and tried to stop her... yet they did not succeed. Yuna, then became a Summoner while at the same time, she met Tidus.

Yuna knew what becoming a Summoner meant and she went on with it. She knew her fate and she knew what defeating Sin would come to. And when Tidus found out what it meant, he vowed not to let her die. Even though Yuna fell in love with Tidus, she accepted her fate and decided not to turn back and to go on with her pilgrimage as she says in Macalania Forest.
