| Dad's Image Painted on my heart is your image Shades of blue paint your humble way. Shades of purple paint your place, for with us you were king. I see your hands more than anything else They are in shades of ash and oil, brushed with sweat and toil. You worked, gave, held us up with those hands. Youre sitting in a chair of evergreen Above your head are visions of greatness. you subdued them here, left them weightless. We were so much more important. Theres an old red truck behind you its sputtering made us smile, its re-birth took awhile. Nothing like a ride in an old truck the wind, the noise, the bumps in the road lifting us off our seat! Kinda like it always would be, kinda like life, but an incredible amount of fun! Theres a fence around you thats picket and white The dogs running around wagging his tail, showing the loyalty that never will fail. Theres nothing beyond there you want to see. Its always going to be the simple things That will make the biggest impression-- Simply no sins, no needed confession; The best of you, in a quiet but profound image. Candice Elise Miller, 2003 California Authors Comments ~ My Dad was a simple, hard-working man. He passed away in my junior year of high school. His image always gives me peace and reminds me of the things in life that really matter. I'll always admire and love him. |
