| She Waits Looking out her window for a sign he's on his way She wipes away the tiny prints the children put on there that day The dinner is in the oven staying warm just for them two The little ones are in their beds no more mischief to get into She spies a set of lights headed straight for her driveway She runs to light the candles this is a very special day A knock on the door she thinks thats odd why didn't he use his keys She opens it wide smileing but a police officer is who she sees Ma'am I must inform you here's been an accident tonight Your husband won't be coming home I'll be on my way if you're sure you'll be alright The years have passed and the children are all grown They are all married now and have children of their own Every year on their special day she sets a romantic table for two Keeps dinner warm in the oven stands at the window till lights come into view She smiles when she sees the car and hurries to light the candles for her man She greets him at the door with love There is a red rose for her in his hand Someday he will take her with him but till then one day a year she celebrates She stands at the window watching for him she knows he is on his way to her so she waits Poem By Snookie North Carolina (c) copyright, 2002 (all rights reserved) |
