Ladies never used such profanity as �mercy� or �the dickens�. Gentlemen never dared to press a ladies waist while waltzing; only a light touch with the open palm. Ladies never spoke to strange men, even when meeting face to face in a minuet. Gentlemen always bowed when entering a room. Ladies always curtsied. Ladies always knew, never doubted, that the Gentlemen would provide their means of transportation to and from social events and festivities.
