It was the perfect place to relax with a good book and some cold lemonade, have afternoon tea with friends, have parties, take a stroll for exercise, or simply gather together a fresh bouquet. It was a place of much enjoyment. Other than roses and violets, you would always find English lavender in a Victorian garden. Fresh lavender could be used for talcs or tea and dried lavender could be used as potpourri or could be placed inside a sachet for a chest of drawers. No garden was complete without Sweet peas. These flowers were darlings of Victorian times. They were one of the most beloved garden flowers, with their frilled wings and radiant pastels. Peonies were a highlight in the garden. With their rose-like fragrance and their long stems and large, brilliant petals, they added a touch of romance. Their petals could also be used as potpourri, although their fragrance does not last as long as dried rose petals.
