~ Outdoor Christmas Activities ~
Lazy snowflakes falling from a leaden sky, the ground covered in a fluffy blanket of white, the frosty air bringing a rosy glow to your cheeks... Outdoor activites were a special part of the Victorian Christmas. Families would bundle up in their warm, winter apparel and go on long sleigh rides together through the snowy countryside, singing cheerfully as they went. There was also skating, a popular activity with the Victorians. They would don their skates and would spend hours out on a frozen pond skating merrily. It was a wonderful way for them to spend quality time together.
Other activities that would keep the children busy for hours, were snowball fights, building snowmen, and snowshoeing.
Sleds were very popular Christmas presents for children in Victorian times. Children who were fortunate enough to receive them truly treasured them and spent alot of time gliding down the mounds of snow in their neighbourhoods with bright eyes and red, glowing cheeks.
