| In the distance I can hear it vibrating against the wall I can hear it, but I cannot see it; it echoes against my head And in my search a panic unfolds within me as I stumble and fall 'Where is it?', I think to myself over and over again It's persistant, seemingly shrieking louder and louder I wonder who's trying to get through and if it's urgent And as my heart clenches again, I find myself running faster 'Who is it?', I think to myself as I race around turns and bends As it gets louder and I get closer, everything starts to fade out I wake to the darkness around me and take a moment to come to The ringing is still there, but now I'm on my bed laying down I see the light blinking and realize the ringing is coming from my phone I answer it, 'Hello?'---yet all I hear is a solemn sigh on the other end And just as the sigh goes silent, I am met by the apathetic dial-tone |
