Continued. . . .

The Mange- Certain dogs have this.  An example to the right.  Makes eating lunch difficult.  Dogs with this condition are more suseptible to getting hit by the big red wells van.  Often travel in pairs, associated with poverty.

Poverty- Many different definitions for many different people.  For me, a condition of isolation and deprivation from society and from basic human needs.  Impact of poverty is underestimated by the government and by those who have been too priveledged to witness it first hand.  Crosses lines of language, color, gender and age.  Experienced by us in many forms in the course of five days.  Sadness and anger ensued from my socialist mind. (there would be no migrant workers without a capitalist society. . .)

Rest Stop- Common on long road trips, even more common on longer road trips.  What is needed after putting 12 women, caffeine and constant motion together. Gives one the opportunity of meeting very "special" people.

Sister Carol- Our guide for the week.  Offered firm, but effective, leadership.  Redefines stereotypes of nuns (go women!)  Expert in painting, screening porches, driving vans full of unseatbelted people, riiighhhttt. . . .

Teamwork- In order to do anything, emphasis on anything, this element is key.  From making dinner to painting trim on a house, teamwork is the oil for the joint of life.  Helps to make everything go smoothly.  A HUGE increase in social teamwork after our
jerry-springer-left-hand-column-mediation-over-dinner session.

Tutoring-  Helping young chitlins (see above) with their homework, or reading books together.  Getting a smile after finishing all their work.  Speaking in an elementary spanish to little girls that laugh at you.  Having fun knowing you are helping some child out.  Strong emotional attatchment occurs. . . .our chicana girls!
