Movie Review: Justin
Essentially D.E.B.S. is a Charlie's Angels spoof used as a backdrop to accommodate a pair of star-crossed lesbian lovers... and as the Official D.E.B.S. site's spiel goes:
'Recruited by the U.S. government for their unique ability to lie, cheat and fight, Amy, Max, Janet and Dominique join an underground academy of secret agents known only as D.E.B.S. These crime fighting hotties set out to save the world and keep their lipstick perfectly applied while doing so.
'Now the girls must combine their skills for their most important mission- to capture vexing vixen Lucy Diamond, the deadliest criminal the world has ever known. When D.E.B.S. star player, Amy, falls for Lucy, chaos erupts and the D.E.B.S. loyalty is put to the test.'
French actress Julie Delpy in 'Before Sunrise'. |
Devon plays a French girl.
(Which makes about as much sense as Julie Delpy playing an Asian woman)
Curiously, playing one of the four main characters (government agents) Devon had a particularly minor part. In fact, the script writer really needs to justify why a fourth D.E.B.S. character was needed in the first place if she wasn't to be given a significant role in the main plot (nor in any of the sub-plots).
Her role as Dominique, a typically pretentious French girl, was actually portrayed quite amusingly... but Devon wasn't given enough screen time to develop her character. This role would serve only to provide with Devon much needed on-screen experience as '2 Fast 2 Furious' was her only other previous movie of any significance.
Being a pro model, Devon is equally at ease acting before a movie camera as when she's posing for a Vogue Magazine photo shoot.
D.E.B.S. is a very predictable film, but somehow you end up wanting it to be. It's purely a fun filled adventure, so you don't really want any unnecessary twists and turns to spoil the film's charm... just sit back and enjoy a zany spoof with a happy ending.
