Dale Crover played on drums. There is a small crowd in attendance. After the first song, the band gets no response from the audience. The band starts Hairspray Queen, but has to stop after the first verse as Krist's bass has stopped working. When the song comes to a halting end, the crowd starts booing. Krist asks if he can borrow a bass. At the end of the show, the band jammed on Led Zeppelin's "Moby Dick." American Journal is a TV program that has aired exclusive Nirvana content several times, stemming from favorable and close ties to Courtney Love. In this segment, Eric Harder, a producer of this early Nirvana video shoot, is filmed giving his tape to a grieving Courtney, accompanied by Kat Bjelland. It is unknown whether this tape in a more complete form will ever see the light of day. If so, it would likely be on a future Nirvana release and not through unauthorized fan distribution. In the segments here, Kurt and Krist mime along with their guitars to the 01/23/88 demo recording. Dave Crover plays live drums and those can be heard in several segments. The camerawork is good. There are some nice close shots of band members (waist to head) and the sparse audience in attendance is, for the most part, kept out of the video. The picture is clear but the audio is slightly distorted. The video is shot from the back of a small venue. The camerawork is good.
