Oz lay in his bed, writhing with that sick wrenching feeling in his stomach. He breathed deeply trying to concentrate on calming his body and accepting peace. One… two… "Ahh!" he groaned as the pain tore through him. It was like this almost every full moon, the quicksilver kept him from transforming, but it was brutal painful. He rolled over to his side, his face sweating and sticky, he took in deep, comforting breaths. This was the price he had to pay. He agonized and wished silently for relief from this pain, anything, even death. He felt hopelessness again and wondered why he didn't let it consume him.
He felt a shift on the bed and a soothing wet cloth on his forehead and rolled to his back. Evie smiled down to him. "You didn't think I forgot you did you Oz Myles?" she asked sweetly as she touched his cheek lightly.
Ari jumped up to the foot of Oz's bed without making a sound. He curled up and closed his eyes. He didn't mind having a sleep over when he knew Oz needed help.
"No," Oz said relieved that he would not have to go through this night alone. "You don't have to stay…"
"Don't be silly," she said before he could finish his thought. "I made up this excellent herbal remedy, well, it won't stop you from transforming, but…" she paused and grinned. "It will help get you some rest and ease the pain," she put a little satchel of jasmine and chamomile under his pillow and continued to wet the cloth and pat his forehead.
"Evie, I don't know what I would do without you," he panted, feeling weak and tired.
"It's a good thing you'll never find out," she said gently throwing an arm around him and closed her eyes.
Evie's warmth was consoling and soon serenity encompassed his body again, this was why he took quicksilver, this was why he endured the pain of living. He could breathe easy and rest his heavy mind. He feel into a deep sleep as his breathing synchronized with his best friends.
