(Thread) While the lady is out... (Open to Garage) Back dated to Friday the 28th
Enki hugged Sam as she left for the evening, it was boy's night in and the first time that Enki really got a chance to hang out with Garage alone. He was looking forward to the time he was going to spend with his new dad, but he was scared at the same time. He scratched behind Tully's ears and then looked over to Garage who was sitting in his chair. He looked down to Tully "Go ahead," Tully said softly. Enki grinned and moved over to the chair. "I was wondering if you wanted to play a game with me?" Enki asked sweetly.
Garage was having a hell of a time adjusting to being a parent. He was constantly afraid that he wouldn't be a good parent, or that Enki wouldn't like him very much. He knew that Enki was going to be a good thing; the cards has said so and he never doubted them. "Sure," he said with an awkward smile. "What kind of game?"
Enki had it planned, he was going to pick a game that he was bad at so Garage might have a chance at winning, unlike toggy pogs where he thoroughly kicked Sam and Evie's butts. He grinned from ear to ear. "How about marbles?" he suggested putting his hand into his pocket and withdrawing a small pouch.
A little smile spread across Garage's face. He had been decent at marbles years ago, though he hadn't played since graduating the Lesser School. "Sounds good," he said. "I don't remember the rules anymore," he said grinning. "Are there rules?"
"I think the rules vary according to the players," Enki grinned remembering a dispute with some other children while he lived at the Lesser school. "I usually take my string and turn it into a circle, then I put the marbles in the middle. Then we take the big marble and shoot it toward the marbles," he demonstrated his somewhat clumsly technique. "The marbles that roll out are yours and who ever gets the most wins," he explained pushing all the marbles back into the circle.
"Sure," he said brightly. He realined the marbles and the circle then shot his first big marble into the center. A few of the marbles scattered out of the circle, he collected his marbles and then passed the big started marble to Garage. "I like this game, it's sort of relaxing," he said thinking of the way the marbles clicked together to make the perfect sound.
Enki grinned. He ahd heard of meditation, but he could never do it, concentrating for so long to relax. There was so much energy that concentrating on nothing made it almost impossible. Then it dawned on him. "That would be a good way of trying to get my powers under control," Enki said cocking his head to the side as the revelation washed over him. "Of course, I have trouble concentrating for that long, I move around a lot and fidgit" he added with a little giggle.
"Maybe there are other ways to get you to relax," Garage said off-handedly. He couldn't think of one right away, but he'd think about it. He wondered if all shifters were like this, having trouble concentrating and focusing. "We can work on it," he said, tossing a marble at the pack.
Enki's eyes widened as Garage marbles sent a lot of them out of the circle. "Wow!" he said impressed. "You're really good at this game!" He smiled as Garage handed him the big marble. "That would be nice of you to help me concentrate." When Enki lived with his parents and the other shifters, he was too young to learn about controlling his power. Some of the shifters could focus, but a majority of shifters could not and those who could not did not care to learn how.
Enki knew that this had been just as hard for Garage as it had been for himself. Moving, adjusting, taking on a new role. It was all so hard, but right. Enki knew that Garage would do anything he could to help him, and that was all he needed to know, it reassured him. For now, he just wanted to know more about his new father figure. Enki smiled as he shot the marble into the circle and a few popped out. "What was life like when you were a kid?" he asked with big eyes as he collected his marbles and handed Garage the big marble.
He took the marble and shot it, knocking a fair share of marbles out of the circle. His youth had been troubled, but not for any reasons that it should have been. "It was all right," he said, something of a blanket statement. "I wasn't the best of kids," he said truthfully. "I used to be trouble."
Enki nodded. "I think I'm trouble too," he held up his wrist. "Everyone wants to track me so I must be trouble," he said as he shot the marble into the circle and knocked a few out of it.
This statement made Garage incredibly sad, because of the innocence of youth and the implications behind it. He felt even worse because of his own feelings on the matter. He supported Shifter Law in some respects and here he was faced with an innocent little boy subjected to it.
"I don't think it's because you're trouble," he said gently, trying to convince himself. "It's just that some people are afraid of what you can do with your magic."
Enki considered this for a moment. "Aren't there other mages out there though who are even more powerful than many shifters?" he asked innocently, still trying to make sense out of the whole law.
"Yes, there are," Garage said quietly. "It's frustrating because they aren't treated the same way. Perhaps the government only pays attention to them when or if they cause trouble. I don't know why they assume you will cause trouble Enki. I wish there was a way to convince them that you won't."
