Salem Academy, Morning, Open to Familiars and other Mages

Ikra really didn't know how you could get through the day without a good breakfast.
He didn't have one that morning.
He had to eat "diet" foods.  So named because it made him so crabby and hungry that he wanted to "die". Just because he was getting a big tummy.  His tummy wasn't bigger then Kanaan's either.  It was unfair.  Just because Kanaan was so fussy with his food and ate with a fork and a glass. Forks were silly things! especially for mages who had clever hands and thumbs.

He wasn't going to get any mercy from Kanaan.  He brought his emptied food dish to him.  Kanaan grumbled a negative response.  And put his bowl up on the shelf were he couldn't reach it. Mages were weird creatures and exasperating.  He tried to jump to get it, but it was too high.

He was going to have to train that mage one day.  When he had the time. Ikra was bathed only three days ago and combed till he was fluffy and smelled like soap. How strange!  He wasn't sure if he liked that smell at all.  So he licked his fur down and rolled around in the sand,  to bring it down. Looking better,  he pulled out his shiniest collar with the metal studs and got his mage to put it on.  Kanaan looked at him funny with a bit of derision.  Vanity!  It was a marvelous thing. He knew that Kanaan was doing the same thing with his fur and his clothes. Because mages looked just silly without something covering their skin, like a plucked chicken.  Mmm chicken

Kanaan was a good mage, well behaved for a mage.  Of course no one could understand what went on in the head of such strange creatures.  Sometimes they would do crazy things.  But Kanaan had the ability to run off into trouble, fast.  He must have been the fastest mage in the school. One minute Ikra would be taking Kanaan for a walk, and then the mage would take down the hall leaving his familiar behind.

One of the silly little familiar rats that accompanied a little mage said it was because Ikra was so little and his mage was so big.  Rubbish and Nonsense.  Ikra was much bigger then a rat. Though not much larger then Kanaan's big shoe
Ikra knew that Kanaan wasn't a real pet.  He was more of a companion.  A wonderful creature that Ikra loved very much. Ikra knew also that he must protect Kanaan from himself, and to be his dearest friend.
Kanaan lived in a whole herd of little mages who ran about all day, doing mage things, herding them to one place to another.  He was like a big sheep dog, Ikra supposed. Otherwise the little ones would fall in the lake or used magic to get hurt.  Magelings were even worse then kittens at getting in trouble.  Even Ikra had to help barking when he saw something bad or a little one running away from the other mageling herd.  Or making sure that none escaped Kanaan's notice.  Kanaan was a very serious.

The good thing was Kanaan would get wrapped up in his work, so the creature wouldn't feel terrible if Ikra had to go do important academy business, things like take his nap in the kitchen. Or steal a snack, or chase mundane mice away to make the place safer, and worry the familiar rats (only a little though rats were fun to chase.)  It was important to keep your mage busy with something while you were working.  After all Kanaan didn't like chew toys or chasing mice.

When Kanaan was busy Ikra slipped away to do his rounds.  He wondered if he'd meet anyone with candy or cheese. That would be wonderful.

Enki and Tully walked down the hall together, Enki was showing Tully his new toggy pogs and trying to teach the puppy how to play. "I think you'd do better if you had thumbs like me," he said showing Tully how his thumbs could bend. "What did Oz and Evie call them?" he asked himself out loud.

"Aposter thumbs!" Tully said excitedly.

"Something like that," Enki giggled. "I'll have to ask them later."

"Hey look! It's Ikra!" Tully yelped and scurried down the hall to say hello to the other familiar.

"Appoasable!" Enki said not noticing that Tully had scampered down the hall. "Hey! Tully!" he chased after the puppy until he finally caught up to him. "Hey Ikra," Enki said petting the familiar on top of the head.

He licked his beak. He got up on his hind legs and instead of giving him a nip gave him a lick. Beaks hurt puppy kitty and people skin.
"Enki!" He squeaked to him. Oh the humans would do such clever tricks when you would talk to them proper and were encouraging. Knowing that Enki would probably laugh or clap his hands.
People did the cutest things!

Enki giggled and scratched Ikra behind the ears. "What are you doing out here?" he asked.

"Kanaan is busy." Thhhhhhhp. He hissed. Ikra rolled on his belly and then his back letting Enki see his belly, not to touch. \

Firstly it was where one kept ones stomach and heart, so not a good place to show off. But foremost of all it tickled. Puppies, kitties, lizards, rats, even the big old dragons and lions felt that way. Imagine any self respecting winged ice panther giggling because someone scratched his tummy. No wonder be creatures didn't show their bellies.

He was patrolling around when he wasn't playing with the humanlings or looking for snacks. After all Kanaan was too big. He would miss all the little things on the ground and the smells if he didn't have Ikra around to help him. His mage was so highstrung.

"I think I have extra candy!" Tully said excitedly. "Let's give him candy!" he sniffed at Enki's side for his satchel.

Enki nodded his approval and grabbed the little sachel at his side where he kept treats for himself and Tully. Unlike most people, Enki didn't care if his candy was mixed in with puppy treats. Enki held out two dog biscuits and a piece of candy that was stuck to the side. "You can't let Maser DeVries know that I let you have candy," Enki said putting a finger to his lips as to represent a secret that they shared.

Ikra jumped up and down which may have been a little hard on his knees, but he woouldn't admit it. He snatched it rather viciously and ate it quickly both of them.

"What is Enki doin?" He asked. Now his hunger had been sated. He was curious and the day was begining to drag, without his mage around

"We're taking a walk," Enki said as Tully and he continued on their way down the hall toward the open door.

Ikra nodded "Exercise is as good as dieting. Lets go!"
He said. "Kanaan is doing paper's work." He said. "I let him do all of that stuff. It makes him so happy."

Enki lead the two little familiars out of the school and into the grass. He slipped his little shoes near the entrance, he preferred to walk barefoot in the grass. There was something that was truly satisfying about going barefoot on the grounds.

Ikra tried to jump on the ledge of the entrance to get a good view of everything before venturing out.
"You better not go to far away. You have to go to class!" He said. "And a monster could eat you."
Ikra may have been exaggerating. But there was no guarantee their weren't lots of monsters.

Enki looked back at Ikra. "Come on Ikra, it's not scary, we won't get hurt," he said motioning for him to join. "I think a few of my friends are over in the garden."
From: [info]able_kanaan Date: 09/12/2007 22:32:20

He looked.
"Well I suppose if you go to far Kanaan wouldn't want you to go alone. Only for a few minutes. Then We have to go back to class."
He plunked onto the ground. "You wouldn't want to be late. You would get a demerit!"
He didn't know exactly what one was but Kanaan was always giving them out to little children who did not go where they were supposed to.

Enki lead the two familiars to the garden where he saw Evie, Oz, and Ari all reclining against trees on the ground. "Hi guys!" Enki said as he sat down in the garden and reached over to pet Ari's head.

"Hey Enki, hi Tully," Evie replied warmly looking up from a project she had been working on. "Oh, I see you brought a friend. Hello Ikra," she said when she saw Master DeVries familiar tagging along behind.

"Hey Enki, Tully, Ikra," Oz inclined his head slightly and opened his eyes for a moment to see who was joining them. He smiled and closed his eyes again. "What are you gentlemen up to this afternoon?" he asked.
From: [info]able_kanaan Date: 09/15/2007 19:41:01

Ikra was glad he dressed nicely if Evie was going to be there. He always loved showing off for the ladies. Though they were terribly crushed when he wasn't interested in anything more then friendship. Devastated.

He smiled, as close as a beak can smile and went up to the two. "Hiiii." He said he had to be polite. Though he feared Enki would run away for the day if it was this nice outside. Kanaan didn't like when people were in different places from where they spent every afternoon.
"Evie. I'm hungry, Do you have food? Kanaan didn't feed me... two bowls." He had to correct. Kanaan was only doing his best and a creature who wasn't a magnificent familiar couldn't know what was best.

He even looked pitifully over at Oz, free food was free food.
