(Thread) Cap Ou Pas Cap, Monday early evening (Evie, Oz, and who ever else want's to join) OPEN
Evie walked into Cap Ou Pas Cap, the crowded but neat shop where she did most of her magic discussing. She grabbed Oz's hand lightly and pulled him further into the shop. He always seemed so out of place there because of his wide shoulders and gruff look. She smiled as they looked around and tried to find something new. "Look at this Oz," she said whenever she thought she found some interesting little trinkit on one of the cluttered shelves.

"That looks nice," Oz said trying to sound thoughtful every time. She was definitely in her element at the shop, he was not as much. He put on a smile and tried to guess what each little invention did. "This one looks like it could cut the grass at the school," he said pointing out a much larger object sitting in the corner.

Evie laughed. "Interesting. It might be a little dangerous though."

Kanaan DeVries moved to his destination from the transportation spell at an alarming speed, stopping only so long as to realize the incident had left his hair out of place. He stopped to try to fix it in the glass. The tall man stood in front of the door several moments trying to set it correctly again but it was hopeless. The furious man batted at his reflection and opened the door, with one hand. A gust of unconscious breeze followed him, whipping his cape behind him and the door shut behind him, levitating a heavy box behind him. Which floated along easily.

The air was a bit stuffier as he entered the room. It always seemed when Master DeVries was in a bad mood the air became very very still and stale at first. The man gazed about like a dinosaur, training his sights on anything that moved. Just waiting for the one man, woman or creature to dare test his patience.

“Really I must know.” He started to ring the bell with insane frequency. “Who must I brutally and painfully hex to get some decent customer service around here?” He slammed his head on the bell. And at the very apex of his frustration the box of metal pats came crashing down. With a loud slam, metal parts scorched and shattered clattering all over the place.
He was a bit calmer and made the resolution not to kill anyone.

Evie turned to the door with an expectant smile, which quickly retreated to a look of shock as she saw Master DeVries walk into the shop. Her hand tightened around his friends and she made a small sqeak.

Oz looked and saw the teacher he so despised walking through the store and angrily banging the little bell on the counter. "What do you think he's doing here?" he asked softly.

"I don't know," Evie replied quietly. Then there was a crash and metal parts sliding across the floor. Evie and Oz both kept their sudden urge to laugh inside with a lot of trouble, both of their faces turning red.
From: [info]able_kanaan Date: 07/30/2007 22:15:57

"It blew up. Honestly. In the middle of my kitchen I don't know who you have testing these devices all I wanted was simple blended drink. My familiar nearly was killed. We had to wrestle it into my closet and blow it up with at least a level three Pyrotechnic hex. Level four would have blown up my wall."
You could overhear him ranting.
A sweet little creature scampered behind the brooding school master. A little puppy or kitten, except it had one feathery wing and a sharp beak which held the cord which the little beast carried dutifully behind. gnawing at it like it was still struggling.
"Ikra go." The mage ordered his strange little familiar.
The little beast wandered abut the store looking for a place to nap while his master was yelling and being grumpy. Hohum.
The little creature wandered over to some customers. He recognized them from school. He gave a happy little noise to indicate a hello to the young mages.
From: [info]evie_chanson Date: 07/30/2007 22:25:10

"Hello Ikra," Evie said softly, leaning down to pet him. "I always thought he was so sweet," she said to Oz as she pet Ikra's head.
From: [info]under_themoon Date: 07/30/2007 22:25:56

"Sweet?" Oz laughed a little. Hardly. Oz had been snapped at on a number of occasions. He was pretty sure that the little familiar could smell that there was something not quite right with Oz. He reached down to pet Ikra anyways, and was surprised when he received a warm return from him. "I guess so," he said, relieved.
From: [info]evie_chanson Date: 07/30/2007 22:29:14

"I wonder what went wrong with your purchase," Evie said to Ikra. "Perhaps I could fix it." Her love of cute, little animals and fixing things completely overwhelemed her contempt for her teacher.
From: [info]able_kanaan Date: 07/30/2007 22:40:50

The little beast cooed at the attention from the girl and rolled on his belly. He gave a slightly cocky look to Oz before completely melting under Evie's scratchings. The little beast loved to be scratched by pretty and nice girls. It was almost as if the beast loved to take attention awayfrom hard working a cute boys trying to date those girls.
"Eeeeeeeeeeevi" The little beast said to her. Knowing he was far more interesting then the strange smelling boy who was so shy.

He held up the chord in his mouth. Trying to pantomime the events. At first the machine was very noisy, whirring and making the ice that Kanaan loved. "Whirrr Whirr. Creak." But then it stopped spit ice everywhere and came to life. GRAAAAAAWR Grrrrrr grrrrrrrrrr" He nobly enacted his struggled with the mean spellbound objects tail. "Slam. KABOOOOOM" To indicate how Master DeVries blew it up. It seemed a pretty good pantomime to him. But humans could be dense.

From: [info]evie_chanson Date: 07/30/2007 22:49:29

"Wow," Evie said watching Ikra re-enact the explosion of the crazy machine. "That seems pretty intense," she said. "I don't know if there is any fixing that," she laughed a little and continued to pet him.
From: [info]under_themoon Date: 07/30/2007 22:58:31

Oz looked around at the mess on the floor and thought it would be crazy to attempt salvaging any peice of it. "It would probably be better if they just bought a new whatever it was that they bought," Oz said lightly to Evie.
From: [info]evie_chanson Date: 07/30/2007 22:59:20

"Probably," she said with a grin. "But it's worth a shot, right?"
From: [info]able_kanaan Date: 07/30/2007 23:17:30

"I can't believe you will not refund my money." The dark man looked like his eyes were going to pop out of his head. "Don't you have any idea the destruction this object could have unleashed if it had gotten into the wrong hands.
"I'm sorry Sir." the cute little teen behind the counter tried to calm down the unruly customer. "Its a store policy. We can't accept any returns on discounted items."
"It's a bloody wonder you have any customers at all, if your store policy is to let your PRODUCTS eat your customers."
The girl was trembling, "Did you read the instructions? Most of our products come with special specifications and the owners manual can be a great way to start trouble shooting on your technical difficulties."
"Technical difficulties. I have first degree burns on my shoulder. It didn't come with a single piece of paper that wasn't in Portuguese. I can barely speak Spanish. I don't think the translator spoke it either."
"I'm sorry." The girl was on the verge of tears."
He growled at her.
"Let me get the manager."
"Yes you better get the manager." He mocked her and dropped the pieces on the ground. Trying to cool off. Were all people idiots in this new age? He rubbed his head with a headache. He tore up the brochure.
But then at this realization he looked around the store daring any to stare. He caught eyes with too Scholars trying to hide behind the counter as Ikra played with them.
He was already feeling his bluster deflate and feel the twinge of embarrassment.

Evie had noticed that Master DeVries was turning his attention to them now, probably looking for his familiar. She was concerned of the awkward situation about to incure. She forced a weak smile. "Good afternoon Master DeVries. Faulty purchase?" she asked meekily.
From: [info]able_kanaan Date: 07/30/2007 23:42:52

"Faulty Purchase. I'm trying to save 30% on a blender. And it tries to kill me." He set his jaw "Without a doubt this place is an immediate threat to this town. I am enfuriated." He paced. "I am suprised no responsible citizen has been made aware the dangers of buying household items from this place."
He was so wrapped up in his little tirade he barely had time to acknowledge the girls presence, for once. Something about her meek girly nature caused the crotchedy professor to lean in on Evie and ride her. He didn't seem to care that she despised the pressure, as it kept the other scholars in his control in line. What business did a woman have learning as a scholar at Salem anyway, when there were deserving young men who could take their place. He left her alone so far at this encounter.
From: [info]evie_chanson Date: 07/30/2007 23:56:14

Evie nodded, surprised that he was so caught up in his anger at the shop that he didn't attack her for simply being alive. She moved closer to Oz and sighed. She didn't want to bring up the fact that she loved the odd, little shop and all of the peculiar things she found there. She definitely didn't want t to mention that she made some of the items that were sold in the store either. As a regular she knew the dangers of buying certain items there, but she was a cautious buyer. "That's a shame," she said softly.
From: [info]able_kanaan Date: 07/31/2007 00:09:22

The little creature looked at how scared Evie was. He didn't like that at all. He looked up at the humans. It couldn't be Kanaan. Kanaan was so silly when his face turned red like that and he puffed up like a baby chick. He looked at the giant smelly boy. That would be enough to make anyone scared. So he stepped on Oz's foot.
"Evie" He bit the boy on the knee cap.
From: [info]under_themoon Date: 07/31/2007 19:37:27

"Ouch," Oz said as Ikra bit him. He looked down at the little creature with a frown. "What did you do that for?" he asked.
From: [info]evie_chanson Date: 07/31/2007 19:42:02

Evie looked down at Ikra. "He must have thought you were making me nervous," she said, still holding onto his arm. "Oz isn't scaring me, my brave little friend," she cooed to Ikra.
From: [info]able_kanaan Date: 07/31/2007 22:42:01

Ikra knew he had made a bit of a tactical error. And now the girl was making nice with the strange boy. What a strange girl! To be nice with a man who smelled bad and not a handsome and fluffy creature like himself. He demanded a single stroke on the top of his head and then wandered off.

"Don't be mean?" Mr. DeVries picked him up by the scruff. "I can't begin to imagine where he gets it." The teacher said. "I must apologize." The teacher was always strangely close mouthed around Oz, giving him strange looks from time to time. But while he pressured students like Evie Chanson, he kept a wide berth of Oz, in a way which seemed almost neglectful compared to the attention he imparted on his students. But suspicious scowls were still not welcome. He probably wouldn't even address Oz again.

"I do not believe such a place is safe to have in Salem with all the children around." He said. His imagination overcome with scenes of danger. "Well I am going to put a stop to this and write a strongly worded memo to the staff, faculty and scholars to stop coming here."
He cast a leer at the girl who was eavesdropping. "To stop shopping here PERMANENTLY." He said in a stage whisper. "No doubt you heard that." He flared his nostrils at the girl, sending her away.

Mr. DeVries couldn't be described as much more then a windbag, and occasionally couldn't help but assume the voice of reason and morality, though no one had asked him too. He rarely didn't get his way, whether by wit or sheer stubbornness.
From: [info]under_themoon Date: 08/01/2007 21:06:34

"It's alright," Oz mummbled sourly, rubbing his knee. He knew that Mr. DeVries didn't pay him much attention, almost as if he was avoiding him all the time. Oz didn't mind it much though, he was pretty sure that it was because he was a werewolf. The staff at the school tended to keep away from him and they were the only people who knew he was a werewolf.
From: [info]evie_chanson Date: 08/01/2007 21:10:05

"I don't really see a lot of children around here," Evie said delicately. She loved that shop and didn't want to see it go down because Master DeVries thought it was a bad idea. "I've never bought a faulty item here."
From: [info]able_kanaan Date: 08/01/2007 21:34:01

"Well, you've also probably never had to deal with the results of such an event, then. We can attribute that to excellent fortune and good luck." He paced around her like they were in a class "And certainly I wouldn't expect a reasonable human being to accept a situation that caused so such dangerous uncertainty." He stared at her sharply. Finally remembering himself. "Especially when children are involved." He asserted "But that be a grave over estimation." He said to himself trying to dust off his shirt. He said. "Do you consider yourself a reasonable human being, Miss Chanson?"
He look became so sharp his nostrils practically flared.
From: [info]evie_chanson Date: 08/01/2007 21:56:52

"I would," she lied. She knew that she made rash decisions and she jumped into things head first, but she knew what she was doing. Half of the adventure of buying things at Cap Ou Pas Cap was seeing if they worked or not and what could be done to fix them. If that's not what he wanted to do, then he should shop somewhere else, she thought. She didn't want to insult a teacher though, so she kept her mouth shut.

"All things must be approached with caution," she spat out some phony thing she had heard him say in class on a previous occasion.
From: [info]able_kanaan Date: 08/01/2007 22:46:43

"But no one sees it that way. At first its just a few scholars. Lunatics and malcontents. Soon all the younger students are trying to emulate their elders as some misguided right of passage, being just as noisome and obnoxious as every other generation. Whatever the trend has been in Upper School the Middle School children will try it next" He leaned against a shelf. As he lectured a strange little device looking like springs and a pair of glass eyes rolled about, as if under its own power. It was some kind of automaton made for dubious purposes yet still had a genial disposition.

"It would be my luck if this place became the very most popular place in town." He grumbled, trying to shoo the strange slinky golem away. But the little automaton was fascinated with the teacher. The little automaton seemed to laugh as the man ranted.

"It is a shame that people don't consider their futures more deeply, I've found they never do." He looked down at her, though his words weren't specifically insulting, he knew how to make someone squirm "I just hope the scholars in the Upper school program can endeavor to set a better example, and not continue doing such reckless things."
"Including coming here..." The automaton tried to hug him around the neck.
"Could someone get this little weird thing off of me?"
Ikra was alerted as the strange thing tried to give his human a hug. And soon the little familiar was barking mewing and screeching making a whole variety of unique noises only he could make.

From: [info]evie_chanson Date: 08/03/2007 20:04:05

Evie giggled slightly as the little gadget became interested Master DeVries. She was more interested in the way it moved around and seemed to be watching Maser DeVries than what her teacher was actually saying. A lot of it seemed to be muffled as her mind worked quickly to figure out the device. She was brought back into the conversation when Ikra and Master DeVries started barking about the attack.

Evie reached forward and tickeled around it's midsection. The springs and glasses immediately relaxed it's grip and fell into her hand. She smiked and held it up. "A very curious little gadet," she said lightly.
From: [info]able_kanaan Date: 08/03/2007 20:18:29

The little toy squirmed and wiggled like a little hamster or some other small creature. Its big sightless eyes shaking left and right.
The creature dusted itself off and immediately tried to open his arms again indicating it wanted a hug and pointed itself towards the teacher, like an excited infant trying to jump out of his mothers arms.

He let out a bit of a snarl.
Ikra thought that sounded like a good idea and began to growl with him. He certainly didn't like cute things either.

But cute noises aside the little object didn't care. It seemed a friendly harmless toy and soon gave Evie's forearm a tremendous hug.
"Good now maybe it can bother you." He crossed his arms. He didn't understand why little animals always came up to him first. Baby goats, chickens, pet dragons. He certainly didn't appreciate getting his pants dirty, and it was a bit embarrassing.

"Who knows what dark unholy genius constructed such a thing and for what purpose?" He said "Appearences can be decieving. He wagged his finger.

The toy watched his finger endlessly fascinated and gave Evie another warm hug.
From: [info]evie_chanson Date: 08/03/2007 20:42:13

Evie let the little toy hug her again and smiled. "I don't know," she said lightly. "I don't think it's dark or evil," she laughed. "He seems sweet and it's not like it hurts. It's probably something that they made for their kid," she suggested.
From: [info]able_kanaan Date: 08/03/2007 20:55:49

He wished it was as easy to shake off idealistically cheerful students.
"Well excellent perhaps we can buy it then for the fair." he wondered if there was ever a day that students and young people did respect their elders.
"I believe that you should consider what I say. Because I know exactly what I'm going to do next. " He paced around her. "II will recommend that no one shop here ever again for anything."
He looked at the toy "Including little annoying... whatever the bloody hell that is. ANd I hope you would do well to listen to me just this once."
He stared at her balefully for a few seconds. "Ikra?"

The little familiar had vanished. Kanaan didn't know that in the back of the store the familiar had smelled a plate of cheesy baked bacon flavored potato bites, and was not ready to leave. Especially cause this girl thought he was cuter then toys or stinky boys. The beast started to do tricks for her to get some of her food.

WHat a way to ruin a big entrance. The man covered his face. It really did seem like the world was conspiring to ruin his day.
"Have you seen my familiar, anywhere?"
From: [info]under_themoon Date: 08/04/2007 20:56:10

"There was a girl in the back with a plate of food," Oz remembered seeing the girl as they passed by earlier.
From: [info]evie_chanson Date: 08/04/2007 21:03:59

Evie ignored his current warning like she igored every other warning he had ever given her. This shop had done nothing to him, she believed, it was his own fault that he did't know enough about the machine he had previously purchased. Still she did not say how she felt, she just kept it to herself and would later vent to Oz when they were on their way home. "We will consider your words Master DeVries," she lied.
From: [info]able_kanaan Date: 08/04/2007 21:37:33

He looked at the girl, trying to determine if there was a hint of sarcasm in her voice. "I must leave anyway now that I have recieved recompensation. I have to extricate my familiar from eating dairy. It makes him quite Collicky."
He gave a small bow "Good Day Miss Chanson, Mr. Myles." And he went from their view.
From: [info]evie_chanson Date: 08/04/2007 21:41:30

"Good luck with that Master DeVries," Evie said with a grin.
From: [info]under_themoon Date: 08/04/2007 21:43:40

"Good day," Oz said lightly, bowing his head. As soon as he was out of sight he sighed relief. "That was awkward."
From: [info]evie_chanson Date: 08/04/2007 21:47:10

"Yeah it was," Evie laughed. She picked up a little trinket and absent mindedly started to pay with it. "He just makes me feel weird. Like he doesn't think I should be one of the students at the school where he works. I feel like he's... I don't know... sexist."
From: [info]under_themoon Date: 08/04/2007 21:51:35

"I just think he hates everyone who is a little different," Oz said patting her shoulders in a comforting manner.
From: [info]evie_chanson Date: 08/04/2007 22:01:43

Evie looked up at Oz and forced herself to smile. She felt very fond of him, her tall and rugged friend who had suffered such terrible things in his life. "I think he just hates everyone," she said brightly.
From: [info]under_themoon Date: 08/04/2007 22:13:53

Oz smiled and continued looking around the shelves for more interesting trinkets. Evie was quite possibly one of the only people he knew who didn't care what he was. "I think this is a pasta spoon," he commented after a little silence.

Evie laughed and they continued their silly conversation as usual. The pair spent the rest of the afternoon lazing around Hamlin. When the sun began to lower in the sky and cool the air aroudn them they decided it was time to had home and walked back to the Salem Academy.
