Biography
Barry a native midwesterner was born on 23rd April 1974 in Traverse City, Michigan his full name is Michael Barret Watson (named after a romantic hero in a book his godmother was reading).
Barry's siblings are his older brother, Scott and sister, Christie and younger brother, Kip. His parents divorced in 1988.
In 1982 the family relocated to the suburbs of Richardson, Dallas.
At the age of 8 Barry began modeling but soon became bored "hanging around posing" and decided to quit in favour of being "just a kid."
Barry's acting career started when he began doing commercials for products like "Jump Dancer".
Maybe Barry started too young as he confesses to being less than a devoted student preferring to act than do school work - wouldn't we all?
Looking for a way to get "out of where I was" at the age of 15 Barry moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a star.
His first role was in the American hit soap opera
Days of Our Lives for 6 months. After this ended and no other role had come his way Barry moved back to Dallas for his senior year in high school at Richardson High where he graduated in the Class of 1992.
Barry wanted to return to L.A so he had to start saving money and took up a job as head cashier at a craft store  "I had this job at this place called Amber's.  It was like an arts and crafts store.  I was the head cashier, which was kind of funny, me with long hair and earrings.  I ran the front of the store, and I had lots of older women customers that would come in and see me every day.  We'd chat a little bit and talk about frames and art and stuff.  I loved it."  (The Rosie O'Donnell Show, 6/23/99)
and then while taking classes at the local community college  worked at Ross Perot's campaign offices.
In 1993 he returned to L.A. and landed a role in the HBO movie,
Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. No jobs were coming Barry's way so he had to support himself with a line of jobs including serving as a member of the valet parking staff at the now very popular club House of Blues in West Hollywood. "I parked (Tori Spelling's) car at House of Blues...and six months later, I did this Movie of the Week with her...and I go, 'You know, I parked your car about six months ago at House of Blues.' She goes, 'What do you mean?' I go, 'Well, I was the valet there.'...She thought I was kidding. She still thinks to this day that I did not park her car, and I swear I did. And she didn't tip me, either." (Live! With Regis & Kathie Lee, 31-05-99)
In 1995 Barry auditioned for a lead role in a new Aaron Spelling series,
Malibu Shores. He wasn't chosen for the role but was instead chosen to be bad boy Seth and appeared in three episodes. A few moths later he re-auditioned and got the part in the lead role.
Writer, Brenda Hampton created
7th Heaven a story about a functional family: a pool-playing minister, his full-time homemaker wife, and five children - the role of eldest son, Matt Camden would launched Barry's career into something big. The cast and crew originally believed the series would "go six and out" and be cancelled after six episodes. They were proved wrong however as 7th Heaven rose in the ratings and soon became the WB network's highest-rated show.
Barry was now able to buy himself the car of his dreams instead of driving other peoples and also his first house, in the beautiful rustic area outside of Los Angeles.
