back to housetraining

This is a baby play yard I purchased at WalMart or Meijer. I like it much better than a crate because it is open, giving the puppy more of a feeling of belonging (being part of the family), but still keeps him/her out of trouble when they can't be supervised.

It would work best if placed in a tiled area (possibly in the kitchen).  It is easily moved around.  In this photo I have it in my computer room, which is where I am the majority of the day working.  Of course, I had to put down plastic first so that the pee didn't soak thru to the carpet.

I normally would have it located in our lower level, which has painted concrete flooring, however due to a recent injury I am not able to go up and down stairs easily and therefore came up with this solution.

**Another Tip  -  When Tucker was being house trained and used the play yard I encountered the problem of him hiking on the sides and peeing outside the play yard.  So, I purchased a dog litter pan (a shallow cat litter pan would possibly work also).  I lined the pan with newspaper (the actual dog litter didn't work because Tucker tried eating it).  I made sure that there was no other spot that he could use to potty, except in the pan.  His food/water dishes were in one corner, I piled toys in another corner and then there was just his bed and his "potty pan".
