The Wonderful World of Books
Currently Reading:
You Gotta Have Wa   By, Robert Whiting

Last Book I Read:
Of Mice and Men   By, John Steinbeck
I would be the first to admit to you that I'm not a huge reader.  I'm pretty slow - and pretty easily distracted when it comes to books.  Or at least that used to be the case.  For something happens when you move to Japan.  (Okay, many things happen.)  Whether you were a reader before or not - just about everybody in Japan has a great appreciation for books - natives and foreigners.  Not sure if it has anything to do with all the time spent on public transportation and/or just the fact that this country really does place a great value on education and the arts.  Whatever the reason, I am very grateful for my renewed discovery and appreciation for books and I hope you all get to enjoy a good book on a regular basis too.  Happy Reading!
My Recommendations:
(in no particular order)

There are No Shortcuts
By, Rafe Esquith
Written by an LAUSD teacher who is dedicated to his students in a way that I had never been witness to before.  I had the oppurtunity to meet and speak with Mr. Esquith just a couple months before I moved to Japan and he is a huge inspiration to me.  I hope to visit his classroom when I return to LA.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven
By, Mitch Albom
Albom is the author of Tuesdays With Morrie - another great book.  This one is even better though.  A fictional story - but a beautiful way to look at life and death.  It's a pretty short book, so I had no excuses for not reading it and I highly recommend all of you do the same!  You won't be sorry!  (Thanks to MLB for this awesome gift!)

Harry Potter (books 1,2, and 3)
By, JK Rowling
Yes, I have given into the craze.  I didn't read the first book until late last year, but I was very excited to read the first two and then rent the movies and then finish the third in time to catch the movie in the theatre.  (It was the best so far, I think.)  These books are just a lot of fun and a great escape - for any age.  The next two books will be a big challenge for me - they are SO long! (A student of mine has lent me all the books!)

The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People
By, Stephen Covey
Yes, I am a self-help book junkie.  This book is great for anyone who is the least bit dissatisfied with any aspect of your life and ready to make some changes.  This book has helped me in a lot of different areas of my life and I'm so grateful for it.  I also bought a Franklin Covey planner after reading this book and that has been a great thing as well.
