My Birthday in Japan
I tried to scan in the only pictures I have from my birthday here in Japan, but the Japanese programs on this computer are a bit too challenging for me at the moment. So, I'll just have to tell you about it....
It really wasn't too exciting actually. Worked all day and then went to the Snow Drop - a cool little restaurant here in Tsu with some friends. I picked up my friend Carmen before heading to the place and we heard a Stevie Wonder marathon on the radio - since his birthday happens to be the same day as mine. The coolest thing was when they actually played him singing Happy Birthday. How many times do you get to hear Stevie Wonder sing to you on your birthday? I felt special.
In addition to that bday celebration, Noriko and her family gave me a little dinner party a couple weeks later. I even got to blow out my birthday candles - I can't remember the last time I did that!
Next year, I'm thinking about treating myself to a trip to Okinawa for my birthday. Within one week of your birthday, one of the big airlines in Japan offers flights to anywhere in the country for around $100 each way. So, I figure, why not?!
