Miraculously, Herbert makes it to the central concrete divider. Once he has caught his breath, he notices a strange sight. What he thought was debris at the base of the divider turns out to be a colony of crude lean-tos.	He is surprised to discover a small community of stranded pedestrians and broken down motorists living there.
They seem to be nice enough people...	Though they are not optimistic when Herbert tells them of his intention of continuing on.
