Herbert finally arrives at a strip mall just across the street from his optometrist. Unfortunately, the road is 18 lanes across, with a 20 foot high concrete barrier down the center.

He enters a video store to ask if there is a traffic light or pedestrian bridge nearby.

The clerk does not inspire his confidence.

A small crowd begins to form as the clerk grows louder in his protestations. They follow Herbert outside.

He examines his obstacle with growing trepidation.

The crowd begins to chant and clap encouragingly.

Just then, Herbert notices a small squirrel huddled at the side of the road, evidently sharing his goal of crossing it. It seems to steel itself, and springs headlong into the sea of traffic.

As bits of fur and viscera rain over the crowd, Herbert feels his confidence waning.
