Herbert's employer's implementation of casual dress Fridays eventually devolves into the formation of full blown orgiastic sex cults which meet covertly in the copy room.

Herbert, a non-entity in the company, finds that his presence does nothing to dispel the wanton displays of carnality.

Clearing his throat loudly and looking outraged has no effect.

He eventually begins to try to ignore it the best he can and go about his work.

The participants seem to mostly be voracious lawyer types, until one day . . .

Herbert has had a secret crush on Lilly, the librarian-esque
records manager, since she gave him those new file folders last fall.

His assumption of an unspoken, mystical understanding
between them ungracefully careens to an end.

Wearing headphones only gets him written up by his
supervisor, and they don't really help, anyway.

(He finds it increasingly difficult to meet deadlines . )
