Andreas Johnson

Andreas Johnson is now an international star, but he’s been involved in music all his life. His parents are both jazz musicians and his childhood revolved around the musician’s lifestyle - touring, late nights, new people. Maybe that’s why he’s adapted to his rock artist life so well - he hasn’t needed to adapt! Since his time touring with the Liebling album, Andreas has spent time travelling to visit friends around Europe - when he has not been busy recording, that is. Living a normal life, getting things into perspective and allowing his creative juices to flow. Wherever he is, Andreas can usually be found strumming on a guitar, and he reckons he’s writing songs every day. He was born in the southern Swedish university city of Lund, but later moved to Stockholm and spent lots of time in New York. He started a punk band at the age of 13 but first recorded ten years later with the band Planet Waves, who recorded one critically-acclaimed album, before going solo with the acoustic country-style album “Cottonfish Tales”. Then he moved to Warner Music, recorded Liebling and hit the international limelight. That distinctive throaty, long-phrased singing style may come from all those evenings as a kid listening to live jazz. The songs come from his unceasing search for the right melody to fit the feeling, and the lyrics are a mark of his musical craftmanship. Indeed, he’s one of the artists included on a ring of internet sites dedicated to “rock poets”, and little pleases Andreas more than when people actually listen to the words. “It’s so important to be curious,” he says. “To always have new goals and not just stay content with what you’ve done.” Andreas Johnson is moving on, and his path is well worth following.
