Paul's Haiku Page
Tumbling through
the pine needles
a black dog.
A stiff wind
pecans pelting
the dogs.
Moments before sundown
the Blanco River turns white
two green kingfishers
A sparrow
on my windowsill
my dog sees him too.
This summer
pretending to be Buddha
sweating and smiling
Even the horses
in this town
have cowbirds.
Up to his knees
in a muddy rain puddle
a smiling beagle.
How far away
from God are you,
ten thousand crickets
A small egret
searching the pasture
for a good cow.
Winter morning
A heron hovers
above the elephant ears
Waiting for the bats
by the motercycle
repair shop sign.
Elephant ears
along the river bank
listening
A dragonfly
lands on my finger
and away again
Several woodpeckers hopping along a branch
beside the Blano.
One legged grackle
you and I
living in this big city.
Waiting for the
bats to wake up
summer rain.
