The prestigious 'Best Collection Award' at the Asia Pacific Young Fashion Designers' Show 2000 was won by Melinda Looi from Malaysia. Her magnificent collection, titled 'Tales', was inspired by nature and traditional cultures and had a mythic, fairytale quality to it.

Melinda's prize included a trophy from the Hong Kong Trade Development Council Fashion Club, a Cathay Pacific round trip, business class ticket to the destination of her choice, a complimentary four-night stay for two at the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel and a Daniel Swarovski Objects 'Ricci Candlestick'.

Fifteen gifted young designers presented their collections at the glittering evening function which was attended by key figures in the region's fashion industry. For the past four years the Asia Pacific Young Fashion Designers' Show has been a stepping stone to fashion success not only for the winners but the participants as well. The show allows the designs of up-and-coming young fashion professionals to be seen on the international stage as the global industry's eyes are on Hong Kong for Fashion Week.

Dr Victor Fung, Chairman of HKTDC, hosted a dinner attended by many Hong Kong dignitaries, setting the tone for glamour and excitement of the show that followed.
