| I use many ways to assess the progress of my students. Progress Reports (Report Cards) are sent home in November, February and May. Parent conferences are scheduled at these times as well. Here are the categories on the reports. Social/ Emotional Development Positive self concept Follow rules, procedures and routines Respect and accept adult guidance Cooperate well with others Take responsibility for classroom and personal items Express feelings appropriately Participate and contribute in group activities Take pride in work Give information about self Demonstrate good health, hygeine, eating, self-help, safety habits Care about environment Intellectual Development Share ideas and information clearly Participate in songs and rhymes Like listening to stories Understand concepts of print Share information about a story Participate in shared reading and writing activities Communicate my ideas through music, art and dramatic play Use letter and sound knowledge Make patterns and groups Describe and produce shapes and designs Understand number relationships Begin to understand the meaning of measurement Explore, collect and organize information Demonstrate an understanding of people, places and events Physical Development Progressing appropriately in large motor activities (running, hopping, balancing, throwing, kicking, catching) Progressing appropriately in fine motor activities (coloring, painting, pasting, folding, cutting, writing, puzzles) These areas are marked M= More time needed L= Learning-Demonstrates occasionally E= Evident- Demonstrates consistently I assess students everyday. If I feel the need to contact parents, I will do so in writing or by telephone. I make incentive charts for chidren to help them succeed behaviorally, socially, intellectually, etc. if I think that they will benefit from them. Some children do not need these charts. I will occassionally send messages home that need to be signed and returned. Open communication is very important!!
