Have you seen any turkeys at St. Dominic's? We have want ads up in the hallway! The first graders worked hard disguising turkeys with their families. We have seen Santa, a leprechaun, a snowman, a paratrooper, and a peacock among other things!
We have made Mayflowers with pilgrims. We have also talked about what we are thankful for and wrote it on turkey feathers for our turkey bulletin board. We made stained glass turkeys and hung them on our classroom windows. We also made "reversible" Native Americans. One side is a boy and the other is a girl!
Language Arts: We are preparing for our Unit 2 Reading test! We are learning setting, author's purpose and cause and effect. We can tell you everything on a title page. We are also learning to draw conclusions from what we have already read. We are still talking about nouns and verbs and like doing our daily language activities. We are working on writing and illustrating Thanksgiving books. Math: We are subtracting by using counters (like teddy grahams), counting back and using a number line. We are doing some problem solving and patterning. Religion: We have added many beautiful angels to our prayer table! We are practicing our prayers everyday. We learned that God created the world and us! We are talking about the sacrament of Babtism. We know that God wants us to be like Him-holy. We should treat others the way we want to be treated. Science: We have studied parts of plants in different habitats. We learned how to classify animals by their similarities and differences. Social Studies: We are talking about Pilgrims and Native American Indians and the types of chores that they had to do. They are much different than our chores! We are learning to read maps and have studied our 7 continents. We know different types of land and water.
