MAKING DESIGNER YARN

Use your leftover yarn stash to create new yarns by twisting them together.  Try twisting a variegated with a solid, or two different solids, or two different variegated.  Remember cotton is normally used when making dishcloths, but this idea will work for other projects as well.

If you don't have enough leftover yarn, consider garage sales, second-hand shops, consignment  shops, or thrift stores.  My local Salvation Army Thrift Store always has a bunch of  knit/crochet afghans for resale at reasonable prices.  You can unravel the yarn and reuse it.  Consider the yarn from old sweaters or other knitted items you no longer wear.

Just wind the unraveled yarn loosely around a cake cooling rack, then dip the rack into water and let the whole thing dry.  All the kinks will be smoothed out and the yarn will be ready to wind into balls.
