Welcome to my room!

I am a little shy, so please don't make any sudden moves or noises.

I was a very wild, frightened kitten of ten weeks old when mom came back to get me. I ran and hid, but she and a friend caught me.
I was so very afraid at first, but she made me feel safe, and when she finally let me out of the little room, I found out I was tiny enough to fit under the bed and no one could follow me there.

I am terrified of the carrier, the car and the Veterinarian... and once mom had to leave me at the Vet clinic for a few days, but I wouldn't eat, drink or go to the litterbox and I spent all my time hiding and trembling under the blanket, so the Vet called mom to come and take me home.

Comet and Toby are my brothers, but they chase me all the time. Even Oliver and Emily will chase me, so I still spend a lot of time under the bed alone.
Murphy would wash me sometimes, and Sophie is nice, but I used to have a very best friend.

Rupert was my friend. We slept together in the cat-baskets and on the bed with mom at night.
When Rupert died, I moved back under the bed for a long time and  wouldn't eat. I am pretty tiny anyway, so mom got worried.
Finally I started to come out and be a bit more sociable.

I still cry and look for Rupert occasionally, and it was a long time before I would stop lying over to one side of the cat-baskets as though he was still there. Then I cuddled against Murphy a lot and Mom was afraid because I seem to always pick the oldest cat as a friend. Now Murphy is gone too.

We got a tiny puppy a while ago and now that he is grown up he is still tiny like me. We play on the carpet, wrestling,  and he is kind of fun for a dog.
I think we may become very good friends when he settles down a bit. We may even share a basket sometime.
FOOTNOTE:
In November of 2002, Sky's friend Murphy passed away. I am pleased to say that except for a couple of days of confusion and upset, she weathered this storm remarkably well. Although still terribly timid (especially if you are moving around) she has started coming for cuddles to myself and to visitors. She has also taken to standing on my chest purring and chirruping into the phone when I am on it. She still spends a large part of the day in cupboards where she can nap without fear of being pounced on or chased.

UPDATE FEB 2007

When Oliver died Sky went into grieving mode for almost 2 weeks, calling for him. Suddenly I noticed she was losing weight and did not seem interested in food. I got her canned and was able to get her to eat a bit but not enough. Very quickly she began lying in odd places and her ears, nose and gums became very pale. I got her to the vet and her bloodcount was down to 15 instead of 35. Tests were done and she had non-restorative anemia. I was with her as we put her down.
This month I have lost Sophie to old age related problems, Dear Oliver to sudden liver failure and Sky to sudden non-restorative anemia.
Now it all makes sense.
Years ago when I lived on the farm before moving here, I lost Murphy to age related renal failure but Toby's death from a sudden neurological problem remained a mystery.
After Sky's death I had them do a blood analysis for Feline Leukemia. It is likely Comet was the carrier and passed it to all my cats. Now there is only Furby, Comet and Emily left.
I have decided to keep the 2 cats till they succumb to the disease. This means I will not be able to have any other cats in my house, but I may look into adopting a small dog to keep Furby company as he is grieving. We will see.
