| Hurro! My name is Comet, and I used to share my story with my brother and sister. They are gone now and I am dealing with grief. We were born around August 11/96. Our mother was a half-wild ginger-and-white shorthair with beautiful turquoise eyes. We are pretty sure that our father was an older, black longhair. Anyway, our mom and her two sisters who were longhaired calicos, lived in the lilac bushes belonging to an old cat-lady in Alberta, who always left her porch window open so they could go into the little porch and get food and shelter when the weather was bad. One day a lady from down the street arrived in tears to talk to the cat-lady. She had just had to have her white Polydactyl cat, Caspurr Manytoes, put down suddenly, and she was very upset. She new the old cat-lady would understand her grief....and that is when she saw us. We were barely four weeks old, but I was the biggest and I could hit my mother broadside and knock her down and grab all the nipples for myself, so this lady decided that for the sake of the others it wouldn't hurt to wean me early. I went that very day to live with her and she became my new mom. My Brother Toby used to tell the second part of this story but he died in 2005, suddenly. We all miss him very much. He came to live with us the day after Mom got me. You can find his page and his story in the Pet Angels section. My Sister Sky came 12 weeks later. She is also in the Pet Angels section as is my little Cousin Oliver Twist. I am the only cat from our related family left and I am now here with Emily, my step-sister. Mom says I am not very bright...but I was always the biggest and strongest and I have the loudest voice! |

| NOTES When my father died and we all moved into his house, Comet began to have dreadful, daily (and nightly) sneezing fits. After numerous tests and medications a friend reminded me about an old cat that was helped with occasional injections of Duplocillin which is a combination of two kinds of Penicillin. Although the sneezing has not completely gone away, he can now go weeks andc even a month or two without a sneezing fit. I think the problem may be in the carpets though I am not in a financial position to change the flooring at this time on the offchance that this may be an allergy to the carpets. UPDATE September 2007 This month I lost Sophie to old age related problems, but also Oliver to liver disease and Sky to non-restorative anemia. Everything makes sense now. While living at the farm before moving into the house, I lost Murphy and Toby. Although Murphy was old and went into renal failure, Toby's sudden neurological damage was a puzzle. After Sky died I had her blood tested for Feline Leukemia. All the symptoms and losses fit. This means it is likely that Comet (with his sneezing) is the carrier and more than likely infected them all through the food and water dishes. I have decided to care for Comet and Emily till the disease emerges in them. Hopefully this will be a long, long time. My house is so empty now with just the 2 cats and Furby. Although I cannot bring any more cats into my house till Comet and Emily are gone, I may look into adopting a small dog for a grieving Furby. UPDATE NOV. 07 Bonnie, a small Rescue Pomeranian has come to live with us and Comet has really taken to her though he is still very clingy and vocal. He misses his little sidekick, Oliver terribly and I am sure misses his clever Brother Toby and his sister Sky. |
