Hello everyone! I am Bonnie. I was called Bonnie Lassie because I have such a sweet disposition. I am in my new Forever home now, but not long ago I was in a sad place. My mommie will tell you more about Puppy Mills and Backyard Breeders later. I lived outdoors in Alberta with about 30 other Pomeranians. We were a mess.
I don't remember how many litters of puppies I had or who the fathers were. I was not groomed or kept clean. We were not fed good food and some of us got more food than others. Many of us had health problems. Finally one day people came to get us and a nice lady took some of us to Vernon, BC to stay for a while.
About two weeks later some people came to get us. They were from Little Paws Pet Rescue. Mommie will tell you about Rescue organizations later. Eighteen of us were driven to BC. We got good food and shelter. We were cleaned up and groomed and we were sent to a veterinarian.
They found out that I am about 5 years old. I was treated for fleas, worms, ear mites and infections. I was spayed. My teeth and gums were cleaned and treated and I had 15 rotten teeth removed. I was then given all my shots and I was microchipped.
Then I was put into a lovely foster home with other dogs and a cat and I started learning how to live indoors and trust people. I was also put on a special organic diet. Many small dogs that are not bred carefully come into this world with a lot of physical problems like collapsed trachea or patellar luxation (slipping knees) I was one of the lucky ones. My luxation is very slight.
One day I was taken to a new house. It became my Forever home. I am learning to walk nicely on a leash and how to play games and I even have a big brother though he likes to pretend I am not here. My new mommy thinks I am adorable. There are 2 cats named Comet and Emily and they seem to like me too.
Everyone who sees me thinks I am so cute. It is true. I have been given a Birthday of my very own. September 25th. The day I went to be spayed and treated. My mommie loves me very much and she is a pushover.
Now if I can just win over my brother Furby.

| Baggage - by Evelynn Colbath
Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed, All nicely tucked in my warm new bed. I'd like to open my baggage Lest I forget, There is so much to carry - So much to regret. Hmm . . . Yes, there it is, right on the top Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss, And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame. As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave - I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain. I loved them, the others, the ones who left me, But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me. Will you add to my baggage? Will you help me unpack? Or will you just look at my things - And take me right back? Do you have the time to help me unpack? To put away my baggage, To never repack? I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see, But I do come with baggage - Will you still want me? |

ADDITIONAL NOTES I found out that no matter what I fed her, Bonnie seemed to have crystals and oil droplets in her urine. She also had several seizures which seem to have gone since she has been getting laser therapy and Cartrofen shots. Unfortunately I think a bird must have dropped a poison toadstool into the yard. I saw her throw it up and was able to get her to an animal hospital quickly. From that experience we found out that her heart was enlarged. She is now being treated for congestive heart failure with daily medication. Many of her fears have gone. She is a sweet, personable little dog and the cats and even Furby now love her (though Furby would never show it!)
