Duke Of Edinburgh Award
Welcome to my Duke Of Edinburgh Webpage!
The Duke Of Edinburgh's Award is a programme set up for young people aged between 14 and 25. It's aims are to support youngsters in a successful journey into adulthood and to help them become good citizens by offering them the chance to do something a little different to what they experience in everyday life. It is an escape from the luxuries of teenage life such as mobile phones, take away food, television and of course the internet, and this is important as it teaches young people to survive without them.
It offers young people the chance to feel part of a team and learn valuable survival and orienteering skills which not only look good on job application forms and in interviews, but help to give the individual a sense of acheivement. It can also help to develop character and personal skills.
At bronze level the expedition part of the Award takes place locally, but at silver and gold levels the expedition is in the wild country, in places like Cumbria (Lake District) Wales (Snowdonia) and Derbyshire (Peak District).
The Award I have just completed is Silver- and it was really fun!
Below is a link to some photos of me and my group upon arriving at our final destination after walking 48kilometres with 17kilo packs on our backs (it's really not as daunting as it sounds!)
