Charles University Teams Up with the University of New Orleans

The program "The Prague Summer Seminar" is one of the results of the four-year cooperation between the University of New Orleans (UNO) and Charles University in Prague. The seminar series involves creative writing, world and Czech literatures, Czech politics and culture, photography and video, music and history, and Jewish studies. It appears that New Orleans and Prague are destined to become natural partners. Both of these architectonic and cultural jewels attract visitors, artists, scientists, and business people from all over the world. This cultural "melting pot" is a source of creative ideas, new contacts, and inspiration for both the business and academic communities.

Dr. Sona Hermochova, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, Charles University, and Dr. Katerina Stara, in charge of international relations at the same Faculty, and a representative of the Czech Embassy visited the University of New Orleans at the end of April. They took part in the symposium "Democratization in the Czech Republic". Dr. Hermochova delivered an inspiring lecture entitled "Learning to Manage Conflicts".

The UNO guests also held a number of bilateral meetings with the representatives of the College of Liberal Arts, the Metropolitan College, the UNO International Office, the Counselling Office, etc. The visit culminated in the signing of the Cooperation Agreement between the UNO and the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, Charles University. The evolving cooperation has been met with enthusiastic support from the local Czech American community.
