The Stonewall Saloon, now a historical museum, was built in 1873 by Captain I. H. Boggess who came to Texas after serving in the Confederate Army.  He and Joe Howell founded the town, and this was the first building built of native stone.  It was built to serve the trail drivers on the Chisom Trail with a saloon on the first floor and a rooming house on the second floor.  In 1958 during the county Centennial, the building was restored as a saloon to look as it did in trail days.  The official Texas Historical Marker was awarded in 1967.
