The Little Women (1994)

Submitted by: The Kitty Foo Fa
Starring: Susan Sarandon, Winona Ryder, Gabriel Byrne, Trini Alvarado, Samantha Mathis, Claire Danes
Directed by: Gillian Armstrong
Genre: Drama

This adaptation of the famous classic is well tolerated. The film features Winona Ryder, Kirsten Dunst, and company. The movie follows the flow of the book somewhat. This is a fairly difficult feat considering the original was pleasurably lengthy. The acting was fairly convincing as we are swept by the passion, imagination, and dreams of these big girls. This was an entertaining way to present this timeless story of sissy hood and family relations coupled with external factors and pressures. However, it cannot surpass the book. For those who will not even entertain the idea of reading this book, please rent the movie to at least stay ahead of Rachel and Joey of "Friends". For those who are willing to immerse themselves in the words of Louisa May Alcott, you are to be commended. Please, follow your dreams and conquer your goals. The world is standing behind you with unwavering support. The movie receives 4 Go's

This film was very, very good. A worthwhile and meanigful movie. The plot was well developed and the characters connected well. The presence of the second daughter was especially moving. Her independence and strength held the family and the movie together. The book was a wonder and so was the film. It receives four goes. It almost deserved five Go's but lacks that intangible something characteristic of an epic.
