Submitted by: Louise and Bob Starring: Charlie Yeung Choi-Nei, Carina Lau Ka-Ling, Theresa Lee Yi-Hung, Gua Ah-Leh Directed by: Jacob Cheung Chi-leung Genre: Drama, Foreign(Hong Kong) Skintimates? or not? Well, Charlie and Carina certainly got skin-timate in this breakthrough film. Carrying the name of a group of women who choses celibacy over marriage, the film actually tells of a love story between Charlie's character, Yi4Huan1 and Carina's character, YuHuan2. But I will refer to them as Carina and Charlie to make life easier of all of us. Okay, now then, essentially, you have Charlie being forced to marry this guy because her dad owed him some money or something, and Carina, the prostitute who got bought by some rich guy, happened to come by when Charlie was about to choose suicide over marriage. Carina gave some money to them and save Charlie essentially. Charlie becomes one of the Zi Shu (self-comb) girls and works in the silk factory. Well, the story is long and complicated but basically, they kinda became these lesbians or just really close friends. The story is told through flashbacks and is kinda wrapped within this other story which involves the now older Carina, but played by Guei Ya-Lei, and Theresa Lee. Somehow, the entire thing comes together and it was happily ever after. This was a bold move considering the conservative morals of Chinese people. But it was really touching and Carina and Charlie's relationship seems genuine. In addition, the score was well written and perfectly adapted for the occasion. Althought it was really not exciting enough to be the 5 go movie, we definitely could give this 4 go's. We both agree that the Hong Kong film industry should pursue more films like this rather than their usual slapstick and with our clout in this business, we're sure to influence the future of Asian Cinema. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | |
