Top Five things that come to mind after watching this movie? Number five, everyone in that movie sure made a lot of top five lists. Heck, they even named a record company top five. Number four, Catherine Zeta Jones why Michael Douglas? Number three, an interesting look at the music fanatic. These guys werent just music buffs, theyre experts who would trounce any music category on jeopardy. John Cusack plays a vinyl record store owner with two very eccentric and elitist employees. The three men analyze the merits of various albums and songs, constantly jibing each other for what they feel is a frivolous pick. Its very interesting, nostalgic, and humorous to hear other people talk about songs and albums. Music isnt just something to listen to, it is a religion, a way to live ones life. Number two, play that funky eighties music. I like it. Number one, John Cusack plays the sensitive, cool, searching-for-love character. You ask did I see this movie before? Yes Cusack definitely has portrayed the quirky, sensitive, searching for the meaning of life and love character in quite a few movies. Cusacks character Rob has recently been dumped by his live-in girlfriend of several years. In his emotional turmoil, he asks why women leave him. So, Rob analyzes his top-five worst break-ups. He then proceeds to call each one of them up. Often during these episodes of self-probing the Rob character addresses the camera personally asking rhetorical questions, and speaking frankly about his fears aspirations and motives. Basically, Rob says what all insecure afraid-of-commitment men are thinking but are too embarrassed to admit. Of course that is if you like the aloof nonchalant random conversation reminiscent of CLERKS. In all, this movie wouldnt make my top five but hey its better than sitting home alone on a Saturday night hoping he or she will call. This film gets 3 go's.
