Submitted by: Louise and Bob Starring: Liam Neeson, Lili Taylor, Catherine Zeta Jones, Owen Wilson Directed by: Jan De Bont, Karl Walter Lindenlaub Genre: Horror Originally named "The Haunting of Hill House" and should not be confused with "The House on Haunted Hill." I don't really know why this happened but probably some plot to confuse the audience. Now for the real review. A horror movie for the wimps cuz Louise was able to see the movie with her eyes open for the most part. The movie takes place in the haunted Hill House as subjects of a psychiatric tests are brought together for a study on fear. The story continues as one of the characters discovers she maybe connected to the house like the head of the squid is connected to its body. The movie attempts to scare the pork bung out of its audience but fails miserably (an accomplishment in which Louise actually commends, contrary to the natural assumptions of Watson). It portrays characters being in purgatory but all the viewers can think about is how the movie has turned couple of perfectly good hours of their lives into their purgatory. But like some would say, at least there was Catherine Zeta Jones. The piece receives 2 go's for its inability to live up to its category of horror. ![]() ![]() Submitted by: Peas and Carrots A pathetic film, even with Catherine in it (perhaps if Catherine had more than a supporting role Pea might change his opinion). Despite being a major Hollywood film, this movie was more like a comedy-horror "B"-movie. In fact, the horror was so sad that the most frightening part of the film was an old lady who takes care of the haunted house. We have never seen the original version of the movie, BUT we are completely certain that the older version is better than this horrible horror film. Briefly, the movie begins when a mental doctor attracts a group of people to a gigantic mansion for the test of his hypothesis. Although the doctor originally meant for the "Haunting" to be fake, or in peoples illusions, the "Haunting" spirals out of control in a mansion with dark secrets. A few people get hurt and/or dies, and then those who remained scrambled out desperately for their lives. The movie certainly will make you think twice about 1) having a large house, 2) the way you decorate your house, and 3) the need to clean your fireplace. Spookiest stuff in the movie: the little kids and their voices in fact, they are still going around in my head as I write!! Pea was really disappointed because Catherines wardrobe wasnt that great, and she barely did anything! This gets 1 Go, and of it comes from Catherine just being there. ![]() | |
