Submitted by: Louise and Bob Starring: Tom Hanks Directed by: Frank Darabont, David Tattersall Genre: Drama "Sometimes, the green mile is so long." How ironic, was that a hint to the viewers? Well, Tom Hanks eyes the Oscar again with this film, but for several reasons, he will probably not get his wish. First of all, the plot: Tom Hanks plays a prison guard who carries out executions. But his routine job changes after the arrival of John Coffee (sic). While Tom Hanks proves yet again he is in his own league when it comes to acting, it is Stephen King's sanity that comes into question here. Obviously trying to recreate his success from "Shawshank Redemption," King writes another work describing prison life. While all seems good for the most part of the movie, it suddenly takes a turn into science fiction after Coffee (sic) cures Hank's character of a bladder infection. Then pretty much all hell breaks loose. Sex, action adventure, and even more science fiction take over. The film had many very depressing points (don't take your kids) and can change the minds of death penalty advocates. Go see this film, expect to be a little bored but also expect an eye-opener to the death penalty. This film gets 3 go's. It lost one go because it had too many executions. ![]() ![]() ![]() | |
