Caviezel plays John Sullivan, a police officer whose father died tragically in 1969 while courageously fighting a fire. John was a young boy at the time of his fathers death and would never forget that fateful night. Then one evening near the 30th anniversary of his fathers death, John finds his fathers old short wave radio and begins to fiddle around with it coincidentally during the spectacular celestial storm known as the aurora borealis. Through the static, he meets a firefighter who claims to be eagerly anticipating the World Series of 1969. Eventually, John realizes that he is talking to Frank (Dennis Quaid) Sullivan, his own father, in the same house on the same day but 30 years ago. They catch up on lost time and then John alerts Frank to the catastrophic fire that will soon cost him his life. Frank survives and suddenly, John sees that photographs now contain his father and memories appear. But that is not the only piece of history which has changed.

The movie continues on, but I will leave out the rest for you to discover, because thats part of the excitement of the movie. I must admit that I had no desire to see this movie when it first came out, because quite frankly, the trailer sucked. It gave me the impression that the movie was going to be about some sort of cheesy reunion between father and son, but in reality, this is only the very beginning of a very intriguing, fascinating plot, which is FAR from sappy. I commend the writers on a job well done. Of course, Ive always been a fan of sci-fi type movies that require stretching of the imagination, so maybe Im biased, but I think most viewers will be pleasantly surprised at its quality. I give it 4.5 Gos for totally surprising me with a captivating, suspenseful plot and even a few twists.
