The Race for the Double Helix (1987)

Submitted by: The Kitty Foo Fa
Starring: Jeff Goldblum, Tim Pigott-Smith, Juliet Stevenson
Directed by: Mick Jackson
Genre: Sci-Fi

This movie illustrates the pathway to the discovery of the DNA molecule. It is inspired by the book entitled The Double Helix. The film gives a good explanation as to how the scientists, NOT just Watson and Crick, fitted the puzzle together. It was interesting for it infomative value. However, due to its release during prehistoric times, the quality is not premium and thus some cheese can be detected. It has some ability to bring that scientist out of us and puts as in awe of the advancement of science. However, the most disappointing part about the entire situation is that one of the main contributors to this model, Rosalind Franklin, did not receive a Nobel prize because she had passed away. Although we understand the rules and that the fact that this has zero relation to the quality of the movie, the film lost one Go b/c of it. So , after plugging our numbers into the free energy equation, the movie gets 3 Go's!
