Submitted by: Louise and Bob Starring: Harrison Ford, Anne Archer, James Earl Jones, Willem Dafoe Directed by: Phillip Noyce Genre: Action, Suspense, Drama Have you seen a Harrison Ford film that you have not liked? umm..."Six Days, Seven Nights"... or "Random Hearts." Okay, let me rephrase that question, have you seen a movie where Harrison was not likeable? See, I didn't think so (assuming you said no to the previous quesiton). Well, seriously, this was probably one of the later films of Harrison Ford that I did like. He returns as Jack Ryan (from "Patriot Games") in the third of Tom Clancy's series. Essentially, you have this nice guy who just wants to keep a low profile as a CIA agent getting into something that seems way over his head at first. But instead of botching up a terrorist scheme, Jack (Harrison) gets involved with an illegal drug war down in Columbia. This film is both action and drama but yet, not. The plot is this, a drug lord kills a friend of the president and in order to retaliate, the prez decided to launch a drug war behind Jack's back (hey that rhymes). What eventually happens is that this war really gets to the drug lord's assistant and finally he blackmails the National Security Advisor to surrender the sniper team. Harrison, of course, being the noble, never do anything wrong guy, decides to get them out and involves himself in the rescue. One really sad note is that they killed of the character of James Earl Jones, the former deputy director of CIA. That would prevent him from coming back for the next film. The best scene of the film was the confrontation between Jack and the president, the sometimes loveable but sometime loathsome James Cromwell. But anyway, the movie was very well adapted for film, trust me, I tried to read the book and it put me to sleep. The overall feel I got from the film was great but you know, it just was not....perfection. And needless to say, imperfect great films get 4 go's. ![]() ![]() ![]()
