Submitted by: Peas and Carrots Starring: Denzel Washington, Angelina Jolie, Queen Latifah, Ed O'Neill, Zena Grey Directed by Phillip Noyce, Dean Semler Genre: Mystery, Suspense After watching this movie, Carrot wanted to marry Denzel, and Pea wanted to marry Angelina! BUT, neither one of us would get into a NYC yellow cab again (We will walk). The film chronicles several murders by an extremely elusive killer, who models his/her crime scenes after a book (Does the book really exist? We aren't sure). The murders, though terrifying, are actually quite creative; we just hope serial killers like that out there would spend their brainpower doing something useful for the world instead of thinking up freaky ways of torturing people. As for Denzel and Angelina, they work well together. Denzel is a detective (or ex-detective) who lost mobility, but still uses his mind to help solve cases. Angelina, on the other hand, is a rookie cop (from another division) who attracted Denzel's attention with her abilities to analyze the crime scenes and "walk the grid." For 3/4th of the film, it was intense and densely packed with thrills, but Peas and Carrots felt the end was sort of a let down; it made us feel like very little time was spent making the ending. The best part about the movie, aside from Denzel and Angelina, was the final revelation of the murderer, I doubt anyone would have suspected him/her. We also liked Denzel's apartment and his tools/equipment for solving crime, BUT, we feel the choice to having Queen Latifa in the movie was regrettable. In the epilogue, Angelina wears a STUNNING dress, and I would say, rent the video just to see that (No we are not talking about Jennifer Lopez at the awards crap, we are talking about elegance and class). There are some sections in the epilogue we aren't quite sure about (Denzel and his sister, NONONO, not Angelina and her brother), so we will go back and study it deeper. A final recommendation: After watching the film, go back and review the beginning with the newspaper clippings. Because the ending appeared hastily done, we are taking away 1.5 Go's to leave this with 3.5 Go's. Warning, some of you might actually have some nightmares after watching this.   | |
