Louise Siversen?
LOU KELLY AND BEYOND- MY INTRODUCTION TO LOUISE.......
I grew up watching "Prisoner: Cell Block H" and used to love it when my Mum would let me stay up late to watch the antics of the Wentworth women.
I had many favourite characters over the years, but Louise always stood out for me. She progressed from a mumbling background extra to a fully fledged character with her own dramatic storylines for many episodes. This was a rarity in the show, but suited Louise perfectly.
I believe it was due to her natural talent in delivering quick, sarcastic put downs and the brilliant control she has over her facial expressions that promoted her from shuffling around in the background to having her own lines and eventually major plot developing storylines.
Louise's talents shone within this series. I know everyone has a joke about how naff "Prisoner" was- the dodgy acting and the wobbly walls, but Louise never fell into this category and helped keep it alive during some of the slower eras.
As well as her classic snide remarks, spiteful nature, wonderful comic putdowns and legendary overuse of hairstyling products- Louise brought a human side to the character of Lou Kelly and portrayed her remarkable well. She has a subtle ability within her acting to go from raving psychopath to a genuinely upset soul with true feelings.
She proved that Lou was a complete emotional cripple- unable to get close to anybody or show her true feelings in public. Her character was made even sadder by the fact that she really never had anybody to turn to, even right at the end; she was always alone and inevitably was her own best friend. Her violent tendencies, neurotic and obsessive behaviour and total lack of compassion were the product of her low self esteem. It was the only way she knew of making her self feel important. Lou did have a tender side, shown briefly, but again, Louise's talent added a lot to Lou Kelly's clearly undeveloped personal background. Lou had a strangely feminine, fragile side which showed whenever she was knocked back or abused, especially after her rapes where in a split second she could change from a tough talking criminal to a scared and used young woman - vulnerable and small, making you to want her to succeed.
Louise has fabulous timing skills too which work especially well with her sarcastic brand of comedy. Being an actress myself, I understand how important it is to be convincing and she certainly manages that with all her roles. This talented lady can have you laughing hysterically one minute then pull you right up and bring a lump to your throat as she shows anguish and fear.
Louise is not only a convincing and sensitive actress, but has one of the most striking faces I have ever seen. Her beautiful bone structure and angled features contribute to the stunning performance she is able to give. Sometimes Lou Kelly looked positively demonic with her evil glare and sarcastic sneer, but Louise's versatility could transform into a completely different emotion just with a slight curl of the lip or raise of an eyebrow and make her vulnerable and almost sweet. She could say more with a simple look than most characters could get across with a whole episode full of dialogue. Quite an achievement!! Out of the Lou Kelly role, Louise is a warm and relaxed woman, with a smile that lights up the room. Her face and figure contribute to this distinctly classy lady and her perfect posture gives her a sense of graceful beauty.
I have been lucky enough to see a great deal of Louise's other work in all areas and I can safely say that all of the above comments concerning Lou Kelly, are true of her other acting projects, if so more in my opinion. Louise has the ability to bring a sense of intelligence and class to her performance and her unique speaking voice works remarkably well for bringing a character to life. She always looks amazing and continues to be 100% believable as any given character. Despite being a true Lou Kelly fan, I actually enjoy her other roles more, as they allow Louise to showcase her broad range of talents, so I'm always pleased when I get the chance to see her step into another character! I admire the fact that she is a true actress- in the business for the art, not for the glamour and is willing to look distressed or frumpy if a role calls for it, unlike some celebrities who won't be seen without full make up in each appearance!!
Although she will always be known for her stint on "Prisoner", people should be reminded that Louise enjoys an extensive career not only on TV, but in theatre and radio to this very day and also writes, directs and teaches. Again, unlike a lot of actresses, she is totally grounded- enjoying a family life and hobbies away from the acting scene.
Louise is truly a lovely person- not at all scary or bitchy like many of her characters! Charming and friendly with a wicked sense of humour, as well as remarkably stunning and youthful, Louise is a very special and intelligent woman with a never ending thirst for knowledge and life. She has a magnetic aura about her that puts people at ease and a smile that lights up the room. As well as being a great inspiration for me personally and career wise, she has always been supportive, caring, grateful and there for advice- that means a lot to me.
I made this site because when I researched, I found that there are absolutely no other places on the internet dedicated purely to Louise Siversen, so I did something about it to give her the recognition she so rightly deserves and this is the result.
This is for all the people who love Louise and mostly, for Louise herself who has given me much more than I can ever express.
