My name is Emily and I live in Wilmington, Delaware.  I am nineteen years of age and I attend the Delaware College of Art and Design, majoring in photography (enrolling in fall '08).  I am extremely excited to be attending an art college!

I also have been studying the flute for ten years and previously minored in flute performance at the University of Delaware (majoring in philosophy and english).

Music was my first love.  I was a member of the Delaware All-State concert band for three of my high school years, and a member of the Brandywine All-District band for all four of my high school years.  I was first chair flute all four years in my high school symphonic band, and also participated in the jazz band (on tenor saxophone) and the marching band (on piccolo for two years, tenor saxophone for one, and quad-drums in the drumline for one, holding the position of section leader throughout my section changes).

I have been studying photography, my second love, for five years.  I have experience in developing and processing black and white film by hand, and producing gelatin silver prints in the darkroom.  I also have experience with digital photography and image editing software such as Photoshop or Corel PhotoPaint.

Photography is an art, not a science, no matter what anyone else seems to think.  It is true that there are scientific elements involved with photography, what with the chemical processes the occur when developing film and manipulating it, but a photographer does not take a photo with science in mind... he takes it for the sake of art.  At least I know I do.
