The Phoenix Foundation, located over the Delaware River on a pier along the docks of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
Details: 12 floors, each floor 12 feet high = total height not counting cap is 144 feet. Cap is translucent gold pyramid shape. Base of building equals Pi. Outer construction of glass and chrome. Interior construction of marble flooring, solid oak wood paneling, artwork and furniture reflective of the art deco/nouveau style.
Co founders: Louis d'Arc and a silent private investor
Security system: Aside from the physical presence of security officers, there are numerous wards and glyphs guarding the building against dark forces and any person(s) with ill intent from entering or coming within a 1200 yard radius. This is due to the very nature of the orb itself (the ability to discern spirits). Also, any person already within the building who, for some unknown reason should have a sudden change of spiritual alliance against the light and Creation, shall find themselves promptly corresponded out of the building and in extreme spiritual and mental distress.
Entrance foyer: large with circular security desk in center. Offices off to the right, an elevator and a door leading to a lavishly decorated dining hall and kitchen facility off to the left, the back wall is mirror (two-way) ascending the height to the ceiling level of the eleventh floor & width of the building. A curving suspended stairway off to the left (beginning at ground level near the front entrance and rising over the elevator door to the second) goes to a balcony hallway running the width of the foyer to doors (office space) at each end.
Elevator:
Floors 3 to 8 - stops at platform to balcony hallway, doors leading to offices at each end of balcony hallway. (Note: At the 3rd floor a secret panel in the back wall of the elevator can be accessed by those in the know to allow entrance to the orb chamber)
Floor 9 - (not accessible to the general populace) opens directly at one end of balcony hallway with a door at the other end. To the right is the inside of the two-way mirror looking out to foyer, and on the left it looks down into a vast chamber which houses an orb of raw creation energy. The orb hovers over a well that is fed by water channeled in from the river (bay). Door at other end opens to a room. This is the private chamber of Destiny. She oversees the "health" of the orb and the building's inhabitants. (Destiny, aka the Fates, but is really one woman. In this plane she's seen as three people.)
Floors 10 & 11 - private quarters for mages, oracles, angels, employees, etc.
Floor 12 - obsidian black floor with translucent pyramid capped ceiling. The pinnacle is directly over the orb. Large bare room for mass assembly. Seating rims the perimeter of the room for the mage council while in session.
Mission: A stronghold/command center, and last ditch weapon against the coming darkness and Armageddon.
Outer Complex: Due to the unexpected influx of beings with tainted natures and/or spirits, an outer complex to house these persons was built as close to the Foundation as possible so that these beings can participate in the activities of the Foundation and receive the benefits of its protection.
History:
After the third shattering, a pair of brothers who had once been worshipped as gods decided to build a facility, a miniature city. Here the strongest creatures of creation could gather and consolidate their abilities and resources in order that they might preserve mankind from the onslaught of the Evil One and the darkness of Oblivion.
Many millennia have passed since these brothers began their quest. Many skirmish have been fought with evil, some lost and some won, but finally, in this day and age, as the time draws closer to the final battle, their dream has been realized. Their fortress in this plane has been built. And just as everything in this realm is a mere reflection of the original, so this fortress is a mere reflection of its original. The key to both lies at its heart, and the brothers have vowed to live or die protecting mankind and its heart.
