Luis Premchand Julio Gopaldas - well , that's a mouthful but it's also a clue as to my heritage. I was born  in Manila, Philippines on April 2, 1945. My father was East Indian originally from Karachi and my mother was Spanish / Filipino born in Manila. I attended the American School on Donada street in Pasay City from the first grade and graduated high school in 1962.

Being raised in a multi-cultural environment, I still have yet to settle comfortably in any of those areas: Spanish, Filipino, American, and least of all, Indian. My father died when I was 12 so that side of the family connection ended early.

I moved to Seattle, WA back in 1962 and married Sharon in 1964, we had two sons, Ron and Jeff. We split up after 16 years, then I found myself married to Marsha for almost 10 years but that didn't work out  too well. However, after failing at two marriages, I've finally found my soulmate in Michelle Bunn. We were married in 1997 after proposing to her on a gondola in Venice. We are both very happy and retired in Sammamish, WA. (just east of Seattle). In the last year, Michelle has been involved with the Smiles Foundation, a non-profit charity that provides dental services to orphan children in Cochabamba,  Bolivia.

I retired from Boeing in 1999 after 25 years. I keep busy by fussing with my classic car collection and playing in a jazz group featuring my originals and smooth jazz covers. The cars are like time machines; they take me back to the days when you could hear the rumble of a V8 and actually put in a set of  sparkplugs and points without the aid of a computer. The music soothes my soul and provides an outlet for my creative energies. It's the best of both worlds.

Going to the American School was such a magical time that many of the alumni still bond quite strongly. I've built a website of Kawayan yearbooks (currently 11 years worth) which I've scanned. It also has a lot  of interesting pictures of pre-war and post-war Manila. If you're interested, please see LINKS below.

As a musician, I play guitar, keyboards, flute, sax, violin and sing. I've written quite a few original songs that tend to be melodic with a latin flair.
