A Feiticeira

O publicitário James Stephens leva uma vida normal trabalhando com Larry Tate na agência "McMann & Tate", até casar-se com a bela Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery). Essa delicada jovem muda para sempre sua visão do mundo ao lhe revelar sua real natureza: ela é uma feiticeira.

Para o casamento funcionar, James exige que ela desista da bruxaria e viva com ele como uma mortal. O acerto poderia funcionar, não fosse a constante interferência da família de Samantha, que de forma alguma concorda com essa nova existência mortal sem o uso da mágica. Assim, James passa a ser atormentado por sua sogra, Endora, e seu séqüito de bruxos e feiticeiras. A família de Samantha era composta pela Tia Clara, uma bruxa muita velha e que quase sempre errava nas mágicas; o pai de Samantha, Maurice, separado de Endora e que adorava fazer citações teatrais; o médico especialista, o Dr. Bombay; além do tio Arthur e a prima Serena (interpretada também por Elizabeth Montgomery).

Os Stephens tinham ainda um casal de vizinhos, o Sr. Abner Kravitz, um aposentado que vivia vendo televisão e lendo jornal, e sua esposa Gladys que tinha como paixão bisbilhotar a vida dos outros.
Samantha e James Stephens tiveram 2 filhos, Tabatha, que nasceu em 1966 com poderes de feitiçaria a exemplo da mãe e Adam que nasceu em 1969, mortal igual ao pai.

A partir da segunda temporada a série passou a ser exibida em cores. Naquele ano o seriado alcançou o sétimo lugar na audiência americana, com uma média de 23.4 pontos.

Durante a produção, ocorreram algumas mudanças de elenco. A primeira a sair foi Irene Vernon, que deixou a série em busca de melhores papéis, sendo substituída por Kasey Rogers na fase a cores da série. Para que o público não sentisse a mudança, Rogers teve que tingir seus cabelos ruivos para preto, voltando a sua cor natural mais tarde; Roberts e Robert F. Simon, porque cada um era contratado por episódio. Assim, quando um chamaram Sandra Gould, 20 anos mais jovem querido do público e a atriz tão marcante, que os produtores resolveram Esmeralda fazia o papel O pai de James era vivido por dois atores, Roby não estava disponível, chamavam o outro; Já Alice Pearce morreu vítima de câncer e em seu lugar que George Tobias, que interpretava seu marido; Quem também morreu durante a produção foi Marion Lorne, a Tia Clara, mas seu personagem era tão não substituí-la, entrando em seu lugar uma nova personagem, Esmeralda, interpretada por Alice Ghostley. Tal qual tia Clara, da atrapalhada bruxa cujos poderes causam problemas para os Stephens.

Mas, a mudança mais significativa foi a do personagem James Stephens (que nos EUA é chamado de Darrin). Dick York precisou deixar a série quando sua saúde declinou em virtude de dores na coluna, ocasionadas por um acidente automobilístico em 1959. O ator foi substituído por Dick Sargent, que na verdade tinha sido a primeira escolha para o papel, mas por não estar disponível na época, foi substituído por York. Os produtores decidiram não explicar a mudança, já que o assunto tinha sido amplamente divulgado pela imprensa e uma mudança de personagem não caberia no enredo.

A série teve sua produção encerrada em 1972, época em que perdia na audiência para a sitcom Tudo em Família. Em 1977 lançaram uma série mostrando como estavam os filhos de Samantha, o programa chamava Tabatha e tinha nos papéis principais Lisa Hartman (Tabatha) e David Ankrum (como Adam). O seriado durou apenas 13 episódios.
No Brasil A Feiticeira alcançou um grande sucesso, a exemplo de outras partes do mundo. Chegou por aqui em 1965, quando foi exibido pela extinta TV Paulista, onde foram mostrados os dois primeiros anos do programa. Em 1968 a série passou a ser exibida pela TV Excelsior, que exibiu também o terceiro ano e logo depois pela TV Record, que passou os episódios do quarto e quinto ano.
